[Amazon Email] Important: Changes to Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery

I’ve seen my neighbors get deliveries from Amazon, one from a guy & one from a girl, back to back days using their own vehicles. (FYI - PLAIN CLOTHES, not even an Amazon Jacket) Not even an Amazon van. I was wondering why strangers were pulling up & walking around.

I could imagine coming home and some stranger is in your garage.

Just waiting for the news story “Suspected bugler killed was actually an Amazon driver”

Very common around here as well. Lasership… They don’t even wear the Amazon shirt / vest.

They only offer the garage thing in certain areas and I believe that has to do with where the Amz vans are. I would want to think that they would force the actual van guys to do the garage thing and not the 1993 Honda Civic Lasership people but who knows.

The first time we got an Amazon delivery out of a beat up car, I must say I was wondering what that person was doing.

That’s a good point. Opening someone’s door (even if it’s a garage door) in the middle of the night isn’t a great idea.

And in this day and age these delivery people need to be wearing a uniform and ID. Even if that “uniform” is just an Amazon shirt.

Hmmm, they are also being less generous with Amazon Day digital rewards.

You don’t need force, you need a coat hanger.

That’s why they sell this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BNL2ST7H

Wonder why they just don’t issue coat hangers to the Amazon drivers. This way, consumers don’t need to get the device.

:man_shrugging:

The old trick for this was to zip tie the release so it can’t be pulled from the outside. I can’t do that because the overhead door is the only way into our garage. In a power outage situation, need to use the key access to pull the release from the outside.

I must say that these things are pretty tough. Had a situation where we had a power outage once and couldn’t get into my garage where our generator is… Couldn’t find the damn key so had to drill the lock out with a metal cutting bit. Took a good 15 mins to get in and my Dewalt cordless drill nearly ran out of battery… Close one… Now I know where the key is to the new release lock…

I’ve seen this

Open the pod bay door, Hal.

I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that.

Yea, the builder was too cheap to install a secondary door for the garage. AKA the Pod Bay Door

What kind of garage doesn’t have a normal door to it? Make sure you sell the next builder you use some brain supplements.

ok, so went to buy something today and above the buy box it said (Plus $1.99 shipping) even though it was 3rd party shipped by Amazon (strange no prime logo).

What is this?? So I add it to cart and see what it says on checkout.

Checkout defaulted to prime day delivery (Free), it was showing the $1.99 if I went and choose Friday KEY. I could have also chosen Friday FREE.

Once again Amazon, BAD CODE is going to not THRILL customers.

(BTW, I choose the $1 reward day, and that seems to be a random day now, used to be prime day)

For those with security concerns about people entering your garage, My garage to home door is secured, I have cctv cameras on the outside of the house AND one in the garage. I hear you.

They’re really pushing this thing eh?

The more I think about it, the worse I think this idea is. First off, normalizing strangers going into people’s garages is not a good thing. That should be viewed as a suspicious activity. Normalizing it means burglars will pose as delivery drivers to break into people’s garages because nobody will think twice about it. And if I was a delivery driver, I won’t be entering people’s garages. I’ll leave the boxes outside. Ain’t getting paid enough to risk getting shot in some misunderstanding, or have the cops come hassle me because of it.

If you want secure package delivery, things like this exist:

(note that this particular product has reviews that says it’s flimsy, but I’m just showing the concept)

I get your points but these situations are outliers in a big way. Sure something might happen but things happen without going into a garage to these drivers.

I have a feeling that these deliveries will be isolated to Amazon drivers, the ones in the Amazon vans, and uniform and not lasership car deliveries.

I’m sure you know how the program works but the driver will pull up, leave the van, scan the label on the box, and the garage door will open automatically and then close after a short time period automatically.

Most garages are located near the street in plain view. Ours is set back 75 feet so I could see those situations getting a little weird at times potentially.

Who’s going to shoot the driver? The homeowner WHO KNOW’S Amazon is going to be entering their garage because they told them to? AND PAID THEM TO?

Who’s going to call the cops? The homeowner WHO KNOW’S Amazon is going to be entering their garage because they told them to? AND PAID THEM TO?

I don’t see a issue with it and will be using it when needed.

Amazon ruined my son’s Christmas present a few years ago by shipping it without using outside packaging. I went to go pick him up from school and while I was gone the Prime Van showed up and dropped it by our door.

Had I had garage delivery, that wouldn’t have happened. It would have been in the garage, out of sight.

It costs $2 an order to use. If you set a day of the week for all your deliveries, they are all held until that day and dropped for free.

I like the idea a lot. I got the controller for it (WHICH IS ON SALE FOR PRIME DAY NOW :rage:), and we plan on using it for situations like the above, or if nobody is going to be here, or if really bad weather is expected.

If my guy / gal gets shot, will report back. It won’t be by me.

My Dad has used it several times without issue. He never even told me he had the controller or used the service. I sent him a pic of my setup and he sent me back his. LOL

Uniformed workers normally in a blue smile van. Not a “stranger.”

VERY DIFFERENT if a random vehicle pulls up, and sometimes they are flex drivers, but they still have on an Amazon vest.

Not around here… It’s weird.

I also don’t think Key In-Garage deliveries will be allowed to go out via flex-drivers. That’s my common sense hope. I’m probably wrong knowing Amazon.

I THINK I got one, but don’t quote me on that. I will take note next time though!

Yikes… I see real potential danger there. The people delivering to you might not look like ours though.

Driving really old, beat up cars, and dressed not so great without an AMZ vest, hat, or shirt. They do wear shirts though which is a plus.

I need to try and take a picture the next time we get one. The beat up sedans are LOADED with packages, up to, and including the dashboards!

I don’t even know how they are able to drive or how they don’t get pulled over for obstructed view.

I am NOT in an urbanized area, I am borderline rural, but within a metropolitan area. Ours tend to be a few packages per flex driver, but we have a LOT of blue smile vans.
