Customize

Thanks for taking the time to provide answers everyone. I have some things to think about now.
I don’t do carving, it’s more of purchasing a physical piece. So the buyers are actually purchasing pieces and that’s why I charge per number of pieces. Spaces between words do not matter for me, it doesn’t actually go on an area-limited base.
It’s hard to explain without revealing my product LOL
The thing is, the way I have it set up is currently the same way for all my competitors and they have been around for much longer than I have.
I don’t have too much problem with this, it’s just one of the things that bothers me and wish it stops. Like you said, Amazon customers are a different breed.
I thought I bring this up since the OP asked if there any problems with the customized listings.

Not really customization but this could be done the same way we do size.

QTY 1
QTY 2
QTY 3
(etc.)

Customer can only choose one option within the group and each option could have it’s own price add on and the customer has to choose a QTY before item can be entered to purchase. Your only limitation would be how many options within the group Amazon would limit you too (it might be limited to 10). But even then you could set up 3 groups of 10.

Group one options QTY 1, QTY 2, … up to QTY 10
Group two options QTY 0, QTY 11, QTY 12 … up to QTY 20
Group three option QTY 0, QTY 21, QTY 22 … up to QTY 30

Only one option per group could be selected but each group could have one selection which would give the customer the ability to order up to 60 (10 + 20 + 30) or any number up to 60.

I’ll put in some more time and play around with it. Thanks again for the ideas!

Here is a foolproof way, but it may be a bit unwieldy.

First, from your description, I am imagining that you sell something like say a Banner, and you sell by the letter, and the customer is Entering a name or phrase, and you just pull each letter and either connect or send as individuals?

You can you two surfaces (which would look somewhat identical), and the “Option dropdown” option of which you can have up to 15 per surface. 15 x 2 = 30, which suffices for up to a 30 word name or phrase.

Each Dropdown is exactly the same (except for the title - Which reads "Select Letter 1, Select Letter 2, Select Letter 3, etc), it lists all 26 letters and any extra Characters (Option allow 100) if you sell them. The customer can only choose one Character per drop down.

And as they progress from each, they actually are spelling what they want.

Each Letter Dropdown adds $1 or your price for each.

Though I understand the rationale, I have never been a fan of disguising our products while soliciting help. I don’t need explanations about bad actors, but regret our group cannot interact freely.

We just never know who’s lurking, so I understand why we don’t reveal ourselves. Plus, when politics gets hot, someone might want to attack our stores or whatnot - someone who might be lurking, so we’ll never know who they are.

The thread could be moved to private or a group PM could be created with those trusted to more freely discuss.

Otherwise … general questions with hypotheticals will get answered but the answers may not fit the hypotheticals exactly.

Thank you! And yes, we actually do this on Ebay and it actually works.
But on Amazon, it just doesn’t fly. Steps are way too complicated for Amazon customers LOL

Thanks for your response. Yes, I do also think it’ll be easier for me to reveal my product so people that are going out of their way to help me can understand better. I also feel bad when they spent a lot of time trying to help me but it doesn’t fit how I run things. It makes me feel bad because it feels like I wasted their time. But even though it doesn’t fit how I do things, it does give me ideas and that helps.
When Amazon changed their old sellers forum to the new, a lot of regulars left and one of the main reason was that now, your business/product is out in the open. I also left (in the beginning but still post once in a while) and luckily, I found SAS.
Yes, I do too regret that we cannot interact freely but like @Amazon_Seller said, we never know who might be lurking. If we can’t disguise our product (if one wants to), at least for me, it will be no different than posting on NSFE.

What’s different is that I haven’t come across a disrespectful weirdo over here.

I just read through all that and I have nothing to add besides that.

Hoping you can figure it out – and you can see by my name, what I sell.

Iris

Totally forgot. Yes, no weirdos or rude comments! Everyone respects one another here!

HOW DARE YOU !!!

go $#@!$#!@ yourself

Give it time.
