Eclipse!

I didn’t take any pics. There are lots of those from everywhere posted online. NBC had Lester Holt out at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The weather was great in Indy. Clear with just high thin clouds.

As the eclipse started, you could tell it was slowly “getting darker” outside. It is like it is cloudy but the shadows are sharp which feels confusing.
As totality approached, you could see the dark roll in but it was relatively light outside of the totality shadow.
Darkness was like a full moon night but again if you looked out from the dark the sky was light in the distance.
The corona around the moon is amazing.
Jupiter was incredibly bright.
And just like that a few minutes later the reverse.

A little cloudy in upstate NY, but we were in the totality zone, so we got a good show through some haze, and got the “3 minutes of night”.

I was a bit disappointed in how light it stayed by me. 89% coverage didn’t even come close to darkness. Had the glasses, it was cool to watch but I got bored fast and went back to work. LOL

I hope nobody’s trying to get an optometrist appointment soon, they’ll be booked the upcoming weeks

I traveled today for a pre-scheduled appointment so I was in an area that had 87% totality. I briefly borrowed glasses from two strangers to look at the eclipse. Even if you’re not seeing a total eclipse, you can still see the effects. The photos show shadows of leaves on the sidewalk and brick steps. The leaf shadows resemble small semi-circles instead of normal leaf shadows.

The last total eclipse in the U.S. was the summer of 2017. Totality was a couple hundred miles north of me in Nebraska. Totality where I live was 95-96% and it did get dark like early evening. It was so dark that the cicadas started chirping because they thought nighttime was coming.

Okay, just got home and starting to recover (IOW, on my 3rd glass of rum).
Saw totality, slight clouds, but they had only minor effect; didn’t see Mercury or Saturn.
Full video, edited to about 7 minutes, with the sound of all of us being idiots, is at https://youtu.be/Ug-SnJFUyu4

BTW, that prominence along the bottom was quite large and easily visible naked eye. You would be hard pressed to see the Earth at that distance.

Really cool video. It sucked here. In fact, had I not known it was going on, I probably wouldn’t have even noticed that it got a little darker at 89% coverage…

Looks like it was worth the trip for sure!

Thanks for sharing.

This is what it looked like at the peak here… Just like any other day. LOL

Yeah, biggest downside was that there were no leaves on the trees, so couldn’t show that effect to people. Best part was sharing it with my three nieces, ages 6, 9, and almost 12 (as of next Saturday). Hard to keep them interested during the buildup; they were running around playing. But all enjoyed totality.

Had to get the video up for the 9 year old; she’s the only one in her class who went (from Maryland), so wants to show her class to prove she was there.

When I have a bit of time, I want to do another; I shot some video of the umbra shadow moving in, as well as a few other things (colander shadows, etc.), but they are on the wife’s phone, so don’t even have them on the computer yet. Lot’s of driving; didn’t get home till abouit 5:30 today (Tuesday), so pretty tired. Crazy traffic.

For context… This is the exact same time today. LOL

So this is proof; an eclipse makes people invisible!

The tell tell sign is the tree shadow. It is lighter on Monday and darker on Tuesday with the full sun light.

We haven’t seen anyone else having done this during the eclipse but we actually filed our taxes on Monday. We were hoping that 90% eclipse would mean the IRS would only see 10% of our return.

Color me unsurprised:

I actually saw this NSFE discussion (and the replies by the seasoned & savvy forum veterans, like yours) last night - but your captivating YouTube Channel video distracted me from posting this (those “squealing with delight” nieces will likely long remember what you and yours had the graciousness to treat them to, methinks).

I shall endeavor to subscribe to both of y’all’s two channels.

And we all saw that coming, didn’t we. Didn’t even need eclipse glasses.

I would tell the OP their best option is to file SAFE-T claims for open/used items and try to get back what they can, but taking big losses on this is unavoidable. But to do that I would have to post on the NSFE and… yeah.

This is just another example of how the consumer thinks they are screwing big bad Amazon, not realizing there’s someone working hard on a small business in the background.

IDK what kind of person would return used eclipse glasses after the eclipse but I certainly hope none of those people are in my circle of friends. Just terrible to read stuff like this, especially if the seller was through and through legit in what they were selling.

Just as a side note, it seems that the single thing that helps boost YouTube videos is comments.
Just sayin…
