So my opinion, good. I think buyers would see it as a price increase and as a buyer I think ebay is already flooded with overpriced listings since listing fees were removed (listing fees encouraged reasonable prices and filtered out a lot of junk).
I agree, good. I look at it like shipping fees on a listing. The cost to buyers will be the same no matter how the fee structure is arranged, but buyers prefer to see the number they will pay up front without any math involved, the same way that free shipping on a listing helps drive sales, even if there is another listing that’s slightly cheaper, but with a separate shipping fee.
I agree that the Free Selling model would be a disaster.
For somewhat different reasons,
There are already too many Ebay sellers who have no clue that they cannot behave in a manner which is more regulated than opening a lemonade stand in an unincorporated area of the US, and are unwilling or unable to accept any limits on how they do business.
This would remove the having to pay fees deterrent to many undesirable sellers.
I’m curious about how eBay Sellers in the UK and Germany differ from US Sellers, that a (mostly) fee-free eBay model works for them but the consensus is that it could never work for us.
Outside of Buyer sentiment, what is it that makes the US Sellers so “obviously” opposed to something that works for UK and German Sellers?

Germany I get why, it’s a culture thing to do things right. No idea UK wise. Maybe it has to do with how regulated the UK is business/VAT wise
The UK free selling applies to a small number of low volume sellers, as I understand it, and it comes with strings, including on methods of shipping.
There are rumors that Ebay is testing, in a trial group, a version of the limited shipping the UK has which requires the use of specific services, decided on and sold by Ebay on a per item basis.
