Etsy took out a full page post in Bezo’s WaPo encouraging folks to shop with their “makers not moguls” Jeffs during Amazon’s Prime Days. This amuses me to no end–although they are facing some criticisms. As an Etsy seller, who cares. Etsy lost its “soul” years ago. Corporate has wanted to be Amazon for years. I’m glad that Josh “churn” Silverman is no longer CEO. It’s going to take a lot more than a catchy “Celebrate Being Human” campaign by the new CEO (was part of the old regime) to convince me that it is anything more than Same Stuff Different Day. ---

Ok but are you actually just mad that they highlighted the Jeffs but not the Joes? 😜 I’m kidding, I’m kidding!..and I do get what you’re saying. But I think this particular campaign is meant to appeal to shoppers who want deals but are feeling some kind of way about the top companies. And evidently Etsy isn’t alone in that right now. @TEXASEXILEBOOKS just shared with us in #Booksellers that one of the book platforms is promoting “buy from bookstores not billionaires” today. ---

In the email it says there were over 5,000 sellers named Jeff… Which kind of shocks me because there is supposed to be like 8 million sellers on Etsy and so 5,000 seems really low for what I think is a moderately common name? And of course I’d love to know what the most commonly used names on Etsy are but I suppose they won’t give out that information 😂 ---
