My wife got headhunted out of our company a few years ago. They have a falcon nest on the top floor. She works in the building on the first floor. Live streamed all year, they often bring treats for the young ones once they are hatched.

We have some visitors in our fire pit

7 and I have seen mom in the last few days, all eyes are open and they are all alert! The house hound is CLUELESS and hasn’t sniffed them yet. He has seen mom one night running out of the yard. He will now be supervised but I don’t think he would do anything.

And just like that, they are gone.

Yesterday we only counted 4 with no signs of a struggle. This morning none. They have moved onto the rest of the grass, and that means I’m gonna have to keep an eye out from on top of the tractor when mowing.

I was also told that our house hound isnt broken (I mean he is, he is a failed hunting dog and thats why we got him), but that when they are that young they dont have a sent yet, or at least one that he would be able to smell.

This box is from a recent clean-out.

Underneath the paper is a cast-iron griddle.

He’s been there for over 7 hours and counting, including 3 times I fed Magic and he kept sleeping:

We have a few windows that have bird collision problems. We have bird decals to reduce the strikes. Usually the only birds that regularly strike them are Crossbills and Varied Thrush. Yesterday a Red Tail hit with a small bird in it’s talons, dropped to the deck stunned, but shortly took off with prey in tow. First time I’ve had a BIG bird strike and it was LOUD!

A robin built a nest on top of the downspout on the drainpipe. Not the best place for a nest in my opinion but she thought it was. I would love to get a photo of mama robin sitting on the nest but she flies away whenever I open the back door.

Aaaand now you have a bonus reason to check that there’s nothing but clothes in those!

I have one of mine busy ignoring several cat beds and a human bed in the room with me and sleeping on my clothes and/or a completely uncomfortable piece of furniture not intended for cats to be on. I’m tempted to put a cat tree there, but then I worry about a “I have the high ground” attack formation situation.

Every year we have sparrows that nest in a gutter at the store. When the babies hatch out the blue jays and crows eat them. The crows are too big to reach in, so the blue jays do that. And the crows catch any they drop.

Wish those sparrows would wise up.

I wonder if my boys would use one of those cat wheels…???

They take up too much space and would be a big waste of $ if they didn’t use it.

Eddie could use it. Getting a little chub. Not easy with 2 cats, with very different eating habits. I have to hide Ollie’s wet food and bring it out from time to time for him to graze on it, otherwise Eddie would gobble it all up instantly.

I have a sheer rock wall (cliff) above a pond with 30ft waterfall feature. Top of the wall is thorny bramble that white crown sparrows love to build protective nests low to the ground. The babies leave the nest and sometimes fall straight down in the pond so I’m constantly looking at the pond to rescue the inexperienced fliers. 😥

Mama Robin’s eggs have hatched. There are three or four young’uns in the nest. She spends much of her time feeding these little ones. 🪱 🪱

This morning Papa Robin was there too with her helping feed the kids. Good for him.

I’ve been putting out mealworms for them which they love. Some of the other birds like them too but the rest prefer grains. Fortunately the squirrels don’t like the mealworms so they stay away from them.

This is the type of ■■■■ that could only happen to us…

We were eating dinner and Eddie was on the table looking for scaps. Then he decided to smell the mother’s day flowers in the vase. Gets lily pollen all over his face and licks some of it off. My wife basically jumped across the table and wiped the rest of it off. I’ve been a cat owner for 30+ years and I had no idea that even breathing a microscopic amount of pollen is deadly to cats. Eating it is worse…

Luckily my wife did. Wish she would have told me because those flowers would have been in the trash instantly when I brought them home last week.

Eddie was in a carrier and in the car within 3 mins of licking that pollen. Emergency flashers on and 100MPH + later, he was on an ER exam table within 17 mins of ingestion. We walked in, said we have a lily poisoning here, and everyone jumped into action like it was a human coding on the table. It was incredible. The place was packed too. Sunday night at 8:30.

Luckily they were able to induce vomiting and it worked. Now he’s on an IV for 48 hours in the hospital with blood work every 6 hours. He has a good shot of surviving this. Next 24 hours are critical.

I might be the only one that didn’t know how toxic lilies are to cats. But just in case, this is your PSA.

Now Ollie is going nuts looking for him.
