Heads up - INFORM Act notification coming up

When I first saw our Canadian flags here, I thought the same thing! Even on the NSFE forums I noticed that some sellers were clearly non-US, but I didn’t have the time to check for others…

Did you open a case? I didn’t… Should I/we?

Amazon makes my head tired, I avoid any interaction that I can. I usually seem to come out fine just waiting them out. YMMV

This might be worth trying:

Even though I’d seen a post from someone whom I believe is US-domiciled (because they once mentioned their state of residence in the ASF) stating that they, too, were impacted, I strongly suspected that our friend @Brigitte’s sleuthing might well hold a good deal of water.

That being said, April_Amazon has just posted that there exists information that the issue is affecting US-domiciled accounts as well:

All in all, yet another cracker-jack job by Amazon’s bottom-of-the-barrel programming crew…

… meanwhile … when picking up the mail today, one of our business credit cards has joined the INFORM Act need for verification.

Interestingly, it is the card that we use with/for Amazon. So … we can use the Amazon 1009K to verify with the credit card … which is nice because we can use the credit card to verify with Amazon.

Guess you could say … that’s a pretty tight nit circle and we be in the middle of it.
:smirk:

Although I realized that you meant “tight-knit,” I recalled that you’ve mentioned having grown bald - thus, having no nits to pick  - and as a result, I immediately envisioned unemployed lice hopping down to the corner bar to drown their sorrows…

Gheez. You had to say the “L” word. Now my head itches. And I just washed my hair.

My deactivation warning finally disappeared! I opened a case with seller support (chat) on February 20th. Today I received an e-mail stating “We have reviewed the tax information that you provided and completed your verification…”. And my warning is finally gone! How about you?

Congrats! Two things for me today on this front. I received this email:

"Hello,

We have reviewed the tax information that you provided, but we could not complete your verification. As a result, your account will remain inactive." Etc etc blah blah blah…

My account is not inactive.

I also got this email:

"Hello,

Due to a technical error, you may have incorrectly received an “Account at Risk” banner on the Account Health page or Seller Central, even if you already submitted the required tax material for INFORM Consumers Act verification.

We are actively working to resolve this issue." And some more etc. and blah…

I’m working at my ‘yuk’ job for the next three days, too darn tired after a full shft there, so I may not cruise the NSFE to see what results others might be having.

I should have added that the threatening banner is still in place on my Seller Central page.

I am not surprised that you received conflicting e-mails from Amazon. I also received a second e-mail from Amazon (a different account, but Amazon) several hours after the first one:
“Thanks for your continued patience. We are currently researching your issue in partnership with the responsible team. We’ll provide an update as soon as any additional information is available.”

I won’t touch it. So far the warning is still gone, but who knows…

Anyone seeing any further chatter about this issue? I haven’t seen any on either forum (though I’m not on the NSFE much), just wondering if everyone but me had the banner removed?

There are still some chatter on NSFE but not as much as a month ago. As far as I followed, most of the posters there opened a case with seller support and shared their case ID with the Mods. Most of those cases seem to be resolved.

I opened a case through chat and waited about a week (5-6 days I guess). The issue was resolved even though I received conflicting e-mails after that. I was planning to wait a week and share it with the Mods on the forums (that’s what they themselves suggested), but the banner was gone, so I didn’t need to.

So today I DO have the notice on my account to verify my info. Where tax ID box is, there is no number so that I can just click “confirm.” I don’t remember entering one for the USA. The only 9 digit number I have is my GST number, which I have never had to send before. I would rather not give them this number and have their mucky fingers in collecting taxes on my sales. I prefer to lose the 5% off my income and pay it myself. I’ve seen so many forum posts about trouble with the CRA over the wrong amounts being paid on the sellers behalf.
May I ask what you use for this Tax ID number? Last Inform Act they accepted my Business License which of course does not confirm any tax number.

Edited to add: Even when I enter the GST number it will not let me confirm without attaching a document, thus my comment re Business License.

Yikes, I’m gonna tag in @DDS @boardgames4us as your fellow Canadian-based Sellers iirc because I have no idea :grimacing:

Which account is this for? Your Canadian Legal Identity or Canadian Tax settings? Your Business number is your legal identify if set up as a company. Your GST number is for your sales tax settings. Amazon will collect GST/HST on your behalf. They will also collect sales tax for BC, MB, SK and PQ using their Marketplace Facilitator role, similar to US.

Amazon will also share your sales information with the CRA.

Not sure if that covers it off for you.

Note that for US, you need a FEIN from the IRS.

This year I had to enter my GST number here (on VAT Information page):

I think (can’t remember for sure) I was prompted to enter it…
But, this didn’t make the warning go away.

On my phone, when I followed the warning sign, it led me to share my SIN number, which bothered me more than the GST number, but did it anyway
That didn’t make the warning go away either.

I also had to submit the W-8BEN form… (no impact on the warning).

Opening a case with the seller support (through chat), did it, is what I believe.

Thank you both @boardgames4us and @DDS for trying to help me out. The deactivation notice is on my USA page of Seller Central. I click on View Account Health in the banner. Then the red ! with Inform Consumers Act. This gets me a box with all my info listed correctly, other than Tax ID Number which is blank. That spot has a link to go to my Account Information. Everything there says Verifited, except again a link for Tax Verifciation (Reverify). That gets me this box:

“Enter your Canadian Tax Identification Number” and the box demands a nine digit number. The only nine digit I have is the GST, so put that in to see what affect it might have, but I cannot click submit without attaching Supporting Document.

Since there is no number there, maybe last time I did it as an individual?? Although I sent them a copy of my Canadian business license. I hate to put individual when I am truly operating as a business. And since it is the USA site, GST doesn’t apply.

If I remember correctly I was prompted to do this on my phone (not computer) and the other 9-digit number is our SIN number  which I entered. And I had to capture an image of my SIN card and attach it.
