NYT Wirecutter - Counterfeit Beauty Products

The article is generous in defining its methodology.

I have one major area of discomfort which applies to the results of its analysis.

Many of the examples of problems are packaging discrepancies.

My own experience is that genuine product which is a parallel import, often has packaging which differs from the product sold in the US.

There are many unauthorized sellers who are selling grey market, parallel import products in the US, and many of the manufacturers lack the legal basis or the desire to fight them. IMO these products are often not counterfeit, may sometimes differ from the product sold in the US, and are the manufacturer’s responsibility to differentiate from the US product.

Perhaps if these manufacturers would spend their money on lawyers, the rest of our businesses would be free of extortion by attorney.
