I have a return
Customer purchased aug 18 delivered Aug 27, 2026 shipped to ID
Return requested 09/01/2026 shipped back Oct 5th **Inaccurate website description** Not as Expected|it’s pink, not purple or “boysenberry” (basically not their idea of boysenberry)
OCT 14th Return to sender insufficient address.

For some reason this was not a RFS but a manual return. I have 2 different variations of the same item that were returned (1 before 1 after) that were RFS so this makes me think this buyer has had issues before.

Origin for return Chicago IL (1700+ miles from delivery address).

When it finally gets returned to sender amazon will give me 4 days to refund or they will refund and I will have no option to appeal.

All seller support will tell me is “file a safe-T-claim” which I believe per the new policy I cannot.

> If you don’t process a refund within four calendar days of receiving a returned item, we may issue an automatic refund. In these cases, you won’t be eligible for Seller Assurance for e-Commerce Transactions (SAFE-T) claim reimbursement except for specific situations such as when returned items are lost in transit or delivery confirmation was incorrect through no fault of your own. In these cases, since you did not receive the item for assessment, you can still file a SAFE-T claim for reimbursement.

It won’t be lost in transit otherwise they won’t issue the refund anyway. I don’t see how delivery confirmation would be incorrect in this situation.

So how boned am I?

It sounds like your only issue here is that the return is being returned to the buyer, and you are concerned that when the package is delivered back to the buyer, that will trigger a refund on your end since Amazon is not sophisticated enough to tell the difference between an item delivered to the destination and an item returned to sender.

Whether it’s items returned to sender, misdelivered, stolen, lost, damaged, etc., sellers get screwed on returns. All the protections we get when shipping with Amazon’s shipping are the reverse for returns, even though we are paying for the shipping label. Once the buyer gets the return to the carrier, all liability falls to us, whether we get the item back or not. Therefore, I strongly recommend not leaving anything up to Amazon.

If the item is returned to the buyer, I would immediately issue a refund with a 100% restocking fee. You will need pictures, I would put in a screenshot of the tracking history, with the returned to sender notations underlined. Odds are that it won’t work, but it might, and it’s possible that if it doesn’t, you can open a case to get it in front of a human.

Sadly, I am not aware of a more reliable option. Cause, you know… Amazon.

FYI, Return to sender “delivered” and “delivered” delivered are two different codes USPS sends to Amazon. It might not trigger the auto refund.

I wouldn’t trust Amazon to process the difference until I have historical data showing they do.

You could just put a handful of rocks in a box and take a picture of that for your claim, if the buyer gets the item back. Fight Amazons incompetent fire with fire. What’s the difference between not getting it back and getting rocks back… nothing, just one addresses Amazons incompetence.

You will be eligible to file a Safe T claim because the return to sender address won’t be anywhere near you…meaning it’s been lost or delivered the wrong address. Do not refund the order voluntarily.

This sounds like a couple we’ve had lately…we’ve had the recycled tracking number issue obviously…but we’ve had another issue similar to this where they originate in Chicago (I don’t actually think they originate there but rather that was the first time they were scanned). The package gets to our city and then disappears. I did go to the post office the other day and they see some funny stuff going on with these. Again, we’ve had a few ones like this lately seemingly unrelated to the recycled tracking issue. I am done eating cost for any of this. Either Safe T claims or USPS claims will be filed for all and they all will be approved by one of the two…that’s been the result so far.

At this point, we don’t know what is going on because none of these packages ever made it back to us…they just disappeared in tracking, too. I don’t know the original buyer had anything to do with it.
