Because… Smoke
Our friends up north forgot to rake their forests. 
That is good.
So when the winds shift, and Canada starts getting smoke from all the fires in Minnesota and other parts of the US, will Canada put in tariffs against us? Or will that take care of the “trade imbalance”? 
BC, AB, SK, WA, OR, MT, WY, ID have always traded smoke so maybe we need a WSFTA (wildfire smoke free trade agreement)
And every year Mexico burns Ag fields which typically covers a lot of Texas in smoke so they better watch out for tariffs as well.
We’re a little disappointed that no one has brought up the Sahara dust storms that come all the way across the Atlantic ocean to settle here in West Texas. Why do we need all that sand in our air and contaminating our cotton growing soil?
And what are we going to do about those hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico America … oops … my bad … never mind …
It’s hard to reason reasonably if you can’t get off the World Cup stage - very different view I suppose

Is anyone else seeing the price of cardboard boxes and packing material go up and up?
Some of the recent smoke is also from Minnesota, the fire is on both sides of the border.
It’s about the new bridge that Canada paid to build, for both of our benefit. It is fully built, the opening has been delayed for - reasons. I’d say why but that would be political, look it up.
(Canada and the U.S. agreed to split 50% of the bridge’s net revenue for 15 years. However, the profit sharing will not begin until Canada’s construction debt is fully repaid. Despite Canada financing the full cost, the bridge remains jointly owned by Canada and the state of Michigan).
I’ll say it.
Because the owner of the competing PRIVATE bridge is willing to pay certain parties to keep the new bridge from opening, so that they continue to make a fortune for cross-border traffic that helps both countries (largely car parts and partially finished vehicles).
If this is too political, then delete it.
There’s more politics than that, could be the same certain parties involved, I don’t know.
Let’s not leave out commodes (more than 30 years after the EPA’s passage - “Energy Policy Act” in this usage, not the Act’s watchdog, the Environmental Protection Agency - put paid to toilet cisterns dispensing more than 1.6 gal/6 l per flush, there remains a fairly brisk trade in non-compliant tanks & in complete commodes) coming across the northern border.
Based on comments by the current CiC, I suspect that this might be the one “commode-ity” not subject to tariffs.
And frankly, living in a 100 year old house (with probably original 3" sewer pipes), I personally wouldn’t mind one myself. Going rate to unclog a house sewage drain in my area is $430. I’ve learned to flush like Chicagoans vote; “Early and Often”
Wait, I thought the purpose of the new tariffs was to make up for the refunds from the previous illegal IEEPA tariffs—you know, kinda like how you pay off credit card debt?
But you’re telling me that it was actually because of smoke? 
He’s just jealous - he wants to be the one that blows the most smoke at the US citizens, and the fire is out-doing him.
