Thoughts on USPS claim for no final scan

,

We worked at the post office 13 years ago and this was a problem then. Light weight packages (most the time in a poly envelope / bag would often be in the bottom of a bag as postal workers generally just pick up the bag and let the contents drop out. These light weight packages get stuck in the folds of the postal bags and stay in the bag. Packages like this can be in a bag sitting in a bin for months before the bag is recycled back into use.

Because of this, we use a stay flat envelope and put a bubble pack inside that when we ship. Stay flat envelopes are less likely to get caught in a fold when the postal bag is turned upside down. In addition, stay flat envelopes are less likely to have issues if they are being machine processed.

Exactly … and customers appreciate when you are proactive and can tell them that you have already put in an inquiry (when they contact you first about the issue).

There are times when the item shows delivered and the customer gets an A to Z claim INR refund.
There are times when the item (non-insured) doesn’t show delivered and we have sent the customer a replacement order (even though A to Z INR would cover).

There are times when the item (insured) simply does not get delivered. And we agree with @papy

Stop with the partisan DeJoy bashing. Since his appointment, USPS service has improved dramatically and their volume. In 2022, 2.8 billion mailpieces and packages the week after Thanksgiving (Saturday, Nov. 27 to Friday, Dec. 3). A record, with very few issues.

Attacks on DeJoy are and have always been political, because of who made the appointment.

[mod edit: off topic content removed]

I would not “bash” DeJoy except that he scrapped sorting machines that worked well, increased service times, increased prices, and continued to make USPS less competitive than it was.

There are tangible metrics here, and the USPS has degraded under DeJoy. I don’t care who appointed him, but he clearly was appointed with a goal of privatization.

So, if there are FACTS that support DeJoy, let’s hear them - but first-class mail volume is down, delivery times are longer, and postage fees are higher. Optimizing the “system” for junk mail at the expense of first-class mail is a bone-head move.

(see First-Class Mail Volume Since 1926 - Who we are - About.usps.com for how first-class mail volumes are DOWN, not up)

:warning: MOD REMINDER:

I have removed some off-topic content. And any SAS staff might remove more content or entire replies at any time, without warning…but please don’t put us in a position where we need to.

Every SAS member is free to express their opinions with USPS and its leadership.

Doing so should never be ASSumed to be partisan politics–which SAS does not allow–unless a member actually references partisanship/politics–which (AGAIN) SAS does not allow.

If you personally can not keep politics out of your discussion about USPS and DeJoy, then please, for the sake of your volunteer SAS staff and the OP @Lost_My_Marbles, move on to a different topic.

Thank you.

ETA: Abuse of and weaponizing of flagging will not be tolerated on SAS. Just because you disagree with an opinion does not mean that the content of the opinion is prohibited (flag-worthy).

He removed sorting machines which were used two hours per day from facilities and moved them to new facilities where they ran for far longer periods each day. With the potential to run them even longer when they increased the package volume.

Reporting on those actions were biased in one direction or another.

Obviously, workers in facilities which were negatively impacted by his changes, sought and found a sympathetic ear somewhere.

As for FCM volumes, the chart you linked to includes First Class Letter volume which approaches non-existent. And is likely to decrease further since USPS has issued a warning not to mail checks.

Many of us are totally dependent on USPS for our shipping, and are appreciative of the major improvements in predictable reliable service.

The nearest competitor FEDEX Ground is more expensive and far less reliable due to its independent contractor business model, and FEDEX Express is now moving to that model.

UPS does not offer a competitively priced service to USPS in most situations.

At the PO I worked for, if packages were scanned “delivered” on pick up, one of us clerks would have to rescan them as “picked up” before they left the building. It didn’t happen very often but we fixed it when it did.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts.

There is no further purpose served by talking at cross-purposes with those who wish to introduce politics into what seems a purely non-political forum.

Yes, indeed, thank you.

Guessing that isn’t a practice at our local PO, as the package that shipped 4 days ago, still shows delivered 4 days ago… :sob:

I sent a complaint to the PO on Friday, but haven’t gotten any response other than their auto-responder saying they would get back to me after they investigated. Part of the problem is our regular carrier is on vacation this month. Our regular carrier is great, as he has been delivering mail for decades, but the carriers that sub for him, not so much… LOL

This is definitely a factor, an ongoing issue that USPS has.
