# Update Product Template Help Needed

I need to correct the Expirable product attribute on an existing listing. I found and downloaded the product type template. Seller support (in chat) told me to paste the ASIN in the ASIN field in the template. I don’t find an ASIN field, searched with excel besides scanning.
Is there an ASIN field in the template?

Look above the top row for + signs. Click them and additional attribute fields will become available.
You are looking for Product ID Type.
It is a drop down field to select from … select ASIN
Then next to it is Product ID
Put the ASIN# in that field

Thank you! I want to tie the update to the ASIN, not just the sku because I have multiple skus based on dates. So I should leave the SKU field blank, correct?
My edit/partial update only needs 1. the ASIN and 2. the expirable product - yes, 3. expiration type - expiration required.
I don’t need to fill in any other fields, correct?

Look on the Data Definition tab.
Last column is Required?
Any attribute that has Required is needed.
Any attribute that has Conditionally Required is needed if the condition has been triggered (Like Product ID Type will trigger Product ID to be Conditionally Required).

So even on partial updates other fields could be required? I will look at that Data tab.

This is what the support chat rep said to do:
> Set the “Update/Delete” column to “PartialUpdate” — this tells the system you are only updating one field, not creating anything new

That is not entirely correct because the Is Expiration Dated is conditional and there is a related Expiration type field that also has to be filled. But my point is that he did not say I should fill any other fields if I am only making one change.

A Partial update will update the fields involved … true
But the template you download to use may have required fields that will be needed to be completed. This can vary by template. That is why we suggest looking at the Data Definition as it will tell you.
There are some templates that do not have the Data Definition. On those, we would complete all of the fields.

I checked all required fields for any that were not previously filled, updated country of origin and is hazardous, the only ones not already addressed.
I may have discovered the crux of the missing attribute in the create/edit listing function on Manage Inventory. This template is for condiments. The Data Definitions tab shows the ‘is expirable’ value as conditional when it should be required. The next value - expiration type - is correctly noted as conditional based on the yes or no to the expirable question.
I will the upload first with only the 4 changes to find out if new info only works, it should fail if more is needed, right? If it fails I will know why.
Are these still supposed to be saved as .csv files?

We normally save as xlms (excel) file.
Is the category of the excel file correct? We ask as we pulled a Category List Report for ours and the associated category was wrong so we had to download the correct category to get the correct attributes.

Normally in a template I would just fill out the SKU & Partial Update & Whatever field you want to change.

Yes the category is correct.
If I save as .csv it saves only the template sheet. If I save as .xlms it save all the sheets (data definitions, etc). Do you delete those sheets or leave them?
I thought it used to be that it had to be a .csv

I uploaded the excel file. I’m not sure what happened here:

I did include both the SKU and the ASIN
There are no error messages
The template has some conditionally required fields with red borders, perhaps it wants those filled in? Shouldn’t there be an error message about it?

I downloaded the category listing report and checked for all red bordered fields that were blank. Stuff that was not required when the listing was created.
I copied the row and tried to paste it into the template.
Now I am caught in a ‘name exists’ error nightmare. I’ve clicked yes to all to override existing (same) name but the errors keep coming. I am stuck in that template file and cannot close it or go back to the category listing report file.
Unless someone knows how to stop this, I will have to force quit excel and lose all my changes (I can’t remember if I hit save on the CLR.
I guess I should’ve used paste special values only

Did you Download Processing Summary?
Then you would see something like this when things go wrong …
This was a big clue for us that the category was actually wrong. AI bots do some wonder work on listings sometimes.

It this a new [downloaded template](https://sellercentral.amazon.com/product-search/bulk/generate)?
Did you fill in the first column? For us it’s “Product Type”
Then “Seller Sku”
Then “Update-Delete” = PartialUpdate
Then the field(s) you want to update.
