USPS operating on Jan 9?

There will almost-undoubtedly be naval salutes sounded all along the Chesapeake, the whole Eastern & Western Seaboards, and in far-flung stations strung from Annapolis to the Pacific in both directions.

As has been (gently, in light of the SAS’ TOS) alluded upthread, the 39th President of The United States enjoys the same approbation that each and every one of them do, in this quarter of opinion or that - but I’ll go to my grave believing that this IS true, despite the foibles fomented under his watch:

Rest ye well, Jimmy, in Rosalynn’s welcoming embrace…

It was a letter in the mail. There were links to the OPM website.

This only applied to Postal Employees and Retirees if your mom is covered by a DOD plan she would not have been affected. My dad was a postman and this is a survivor’s benefit.

FWIW, President Carter’s Day of Mourning will be occurring on President Nixon’s birthday.

For me, best President ever.

Why? As a boy I used to watch the lottery on TV with my mom, she said don’t worry, it will be over before you are old enough. Not so much, the ball dropped (not the new years one last night) the draft ball. I was number 4 based on my birthday. Bye bye to me, off to the “conflict” in Vietnam. Yet President Nixon soon after ended the war conflict and I did not have to go.

Best President Ever. Though I would have gone, as an outdoorsman, hunter and Eagle Scout, I fear I would not have returned.

Number 3 … it stopped a couple months before our 18th birthday.

A sentiment held by most at the time …

I know it’s small comfort, but we sure do appreciate the good and difficult work he does every day for these VIPs, in a tough system.

Hopefully the day of mourning will be calm. And somebody brings in donuts.

My guess is that the web folks are on holiday and that’s why there has yet to be a clear announcement on the main public usps.com page (as of 3pm). But this is pretty official.

Well, just got the first indication of this. Sold a book a few hours ago; since I still have 2 day handling, should be showing “Ship By” date of Tuesday Jan 7 (which is true for books that sold prior to that). But instead shows “Ship by Thursday Jan 9”. Not only adding unneeded time, but picking the one day that nothing ships.

Well, more orders have come in with Tuesday as Ship By; so I went in a checked my offer, and somehow, I entered 5 days as the sku-specific handling time

So I guess it’s nothing more than Amazon not considering the holiday yet. (I’ll ship it out before then anyway).

Amazon will probably not address the Jan 9th USPS holiday/remembrance day with programming. Hopefully, Amazon is busy getting the major change of Jan 19th code ready.

We have 2 day handle time so we won’t see this issue until Jan 7th orders. We will probably just ship them Jan 10th (and maybe be able to do a few on Jan 8th).

We wouldn’t stress … just do what you can … get out what you can on Jan 8th and the rest on Jan 10th.

The official response from an Amazon MOD.

Put your account on vacation mode to protect your OTDR.

FFS Really?

Greetings @Voice_Of_Reason,

I hear your concerns loud and clear about the upcoming mail suspension on January 9th. You’re absolutely right to be thinking ahead about this - it’s a situation that could potentially impact many of FBM shippers sellers.

Does Amazon have enough time to take this into account so we don’t all get dinged with missed pick-ups and late deliveries on that day?!?

Should us FBM shippers be concerned about this?!? It’s barely a week away!

These are excellent questions that reflect the real challenges as sellers. While sellers can’t control USPS operations, they do have tools to manage Amazon listings during such disruptions.

Here’s what you can do to protect your seller metrics:

If you anticipate issues fulfilling orders due to this mail suspension (or any other reason like family emergencies, bad weather, or vacations), you have the option to temporarily deactivate your listings. This removes your self-fulfilled items from Amazon product pages and search results within an hour.

To do this:

  1. Go to your seller account

  2. Select Settings, then Account Info

  3. In the Account Overview, find the Store Status section

  4. Click on Vacation Settings

On the Vacation Settings page, you can adjust settings for one or multiple marketplaces. This way, you won’t have to worry about missed pickups or late deliveries affecting your performance.

For more detailed information, check out the “Listing status for vacations, holidays, and other absences” page on Seller Central.

Thank you for bringing this important issue to the sellers’ forum. Remember, our community is here to support each other, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you need any further clarification. We’re all in this together!

Best,

The best reply I’ve seen, so far, to Roxy’s recommendation comes from one of SAS’ own members who still participates in the NSFE:

The closing will probably further delay this shipment that has been going in circles for weeks. I think it has already broken a record for me.

My record is 5 weeks to get from NY NY to Rochester NY.

I pointed out to the guy on the phone that I could have gotten it there faster walking if I averaged 5 MPH and walked for 4 hours a day.

I was actually referring to number of scans… 32 and counting.
