Just a reminder of the upcoming USPS price changes …
Starting July 13, 2025, USPS will be implementing new prices for select shipping and mailing services. These services include:
Shipping: Priority Mail®, USPS Ground Advantage®, and Parcel Select®
Mailing: First-Class Mail Forever® stamps and mailing services products
No price changes are being made to Priority Mail Express®, Domestic Extra Services, International Ancillary Services, or International Product shipping services. Here at USPS, we believe in transparency, and we want to make sure you’re prepared in advance for these new prices.
Apparently Media Mail rates are supposed to decrease just slightly, but presort rates for Media Mail are being eliminated. Charts showing all the proposed rate changes are at the link below. Note, however, that some rates may be even lower if the service you use offers Connect eCommerce (CEC) pricing.
I don’t think I’ve ever used presort since I became a seller. At least it will be a little cheaper ordering from Pirate Ship going forward, too bad they can’t offer bound printed matter too.
Bumping this up as July 13, 2025 is Sunday and when USPS price increases happen. Depending on your set up and handle time, your price adjustments or shipping adjustments should be done today or tomorrow to avoid taking the hit to the bottom line.
One additional thing I just learned.
There will now be a $4 surcharge on cylindrical shipping tubes; apparently, regardless of length. So if you ship things like posters or large prints, you may want to change your shipping charges.
(not sure if this applies to triangular tubes; the implication is that the charge is on things that can roll during processing, but don’t want to give bad advice).
We’ll be shipping all of our GA Ebay packages tomorrow, just to save the ~5%.
In addition to those selling ephemera and collectibles, I suspect several @Handmade sellers might feel this pinch; tagging @LR72 as one possible example.
After processing orders this morning with the new pricing, we see that Amazon must have “special” pricing as the USPS Ground Advantage (less than 1lb) Commercial pricing is higher than what Amazon is charging.
Will try to post Amazon pricing a little later when we have time to compile some of them.
We tried to pre-pay for our PO Box and it wasn’t an option online or at the counter (we renew in Nov). And I never got a real answer from our postmaster as to how much the box was going up. Poor customer service.
It will depend on the Post Office, the size of box and the Group associated with your Post Office … busy POs will have a greater demand and generally a higher cost
So I ran into this in Jan. I was too early. It only appears as an option online if your within one month of renewal. I only found out about this after going to the counter and asking, and even the clerks had to go ask the postmaster. They all agreed the wording of the “renew early” email is poor at best.
Ok … if you have a way to track what Amazon is charging for USPS GA labels vs what USPS has provided as the GA Commercial price, it may be to your advantage later when Amazon does other charges for USPS labels. What we are seeing is a cluster ■■■■ mess. For 3oz GA Zone 5, we are seeing some with $4.41 and some with the USPS price $4.45. Zone 6 GA 3oz shows some Amazon $4.52 and some USPS $4.57. Zone 7 GA 3oz shows some Amazon $4.60 and some USPS $ 4.65.
We don’t have any of the other Zones to test so can’t say what they are showing.
If you have a way to track, we suggest you might do so. This reminds us of a couple of years ago when Amazon was charging a discounted rate for Priority Mail Flat Rate envelopes going to Hawaii but the discounted rate was only for the continental US. We got hit with other charges for PM flat rate envelopes that we had used to ship to Hawaii. We got Amazon to acknowledge that it was their error and was suppose to receive a refund for the other charges … but the refund never happened.
I shipped a batch of orders Monday, mostly books, one CD. I used Amazon shipping, all USPS. The new, correct BPM and MM rates were charged for all except two.
The very last order was charged the correct BPM rate, no problem.
But the two prior – books going to business buyers – were charged the old BPM rates. Those were my only business buyer shipments that day.
Is Amazon now charging less postage for business orders? Seems doubtful. My best guess is that it is a garden variety Amazon foul-up. I expect adjustments on those two packages. I do hope it gets fixed.
Interesting. According to USPS we have an 3-M box (11x5.5). At our PO there is one box size larger than ours. So, I don’t know if we’re size 3 or size 4. Last year we paid $210 for 6 months.
When we first got our box, in like 2017-ish the price was super reasonable. Then it shot up like a rocket. I asked ‘what gives?!’ Oh, we wanted to be more competitive with other places. Yeah, no. The UPS Store offers way more services, so they charge more. Grrr.
But I will say that I appreciate parcel pickup. Finally got the post office to realize that when I put in a pickup request, that means I need a pickup. And if they don’t come, I’ll be at the PO, end of the day with my stack of stuff that needs to be scanned – just holding up the line. One day I walked in with 86 parcels. They were not happy. No, I can’t wait to ship them until tomorrow. They have to be scanned received today.
