It was real strong around 8pm. We noticed the sky a little pink while out with the doggo and turned off the flood lights and wow. Then went out front (north) and looked towards the north east and thats the picture you can see
Just got back from trying to see them. Drove north to get away from NYC lights; turns out that the spot I had planned on has too much lighting; found another nearby (Harriman State Park, just north of the city). However, discovered that thereās still too much light pollution from the towns to the north. Never did find a place where I could even make out the Little Dipper, although I could see overhead pretty well. Didnāt help that the moon is rather bright as well.
Next time thereās an alert, I think weāll try heading west instead. Fingers crossed.
As for S. AZ, no flooding here. Lived on the Gulf Coast for many years and went through half-dozen hurricanes, so the folks in Florida have my prayers.
Attended a craft sale today and it was unexpectedly held outside! [102 at 2pm.Usually, Mid-Oct has simmered down to 86-89!! The West is going through a drought and unexpected high temps this fall]. Woulda worn sunblock/ hat if I knew there was minimal cover{a few tents but not enough]. Intriguing this country is so large to have weather extremes on coasts at the same time!!
Let the Autumn transition begin ā¦
High today 91 ā¦ low tonight 41 ā¦ tomorrow low 60s ā¦
Snow coming to the nearby Rockies ā¦
Canadian geese will be arriving soon ā¦
Long winter nights are silently approaching ā¦
The Indian summer has painted the trees ā¦
All while we sit in our rockers sipping warm cider.
I had to abandon the shorts for the first time since May today. Our chill came in mid-afternoon yesterday. Real feel temps will be in the 30ās tonight.
In other weather news, it hasnāt really rained here in 6 weeks or more. Very unusual.
Lot of dead lawns around hereā¦
Same
Went out to get the WSJāyes, we still like the paper version, and there was actually-well, not a chill, but a cooler atmosphere. High was 88 today-so itās still short weather-and probably will be till Thanksgiving. .
In anticipation of our usual 3-4 week winter(wonāt begin till near X-Mas), purchased a light sweater from L. L. Bean, nothing like one would wear in New England or even Seattle .
Brr-hope for a cooler/wet winter- lives forever in the hearts of desert denizens!
Itās been beautiful all week down here in the deep south! Low humidity and temps in the upper 60s/lower 70s. Itās 43 out right now. It will be back in the lower 80s for next week but I donāt think it will be humid.
Not sure if this is still true, but when I lived in the Phoenix area, such a sweater was considered a necessity. Not for the winter, but for the summer if you wanted to go out to eat. Nothing like being dressed for 105 and going into a restaurant with the A/C cranked to 70, or even lower!
Peak color weekend in New England, with cool nights and sunny days.
Wish I was among the leaf-peepers this yearā¦but it has finally dipped below the 90ās here for more than 2 consecutive days and actually sprinkled a little on Friday. Looks like weāre about to have our 2 weeks of Fall!!
That wonāt prevent Mother Nature from hitting 100 degrees again on Halloween-or even Thanksgiving, the most obnoxious time for high temperatures while eating a heavy meal, while we try to pretend the desert is just like the rest of the country! .
I checked my one sprinkler valve box @ASV_Vites, dry as a bone and has been for months cause no rain!! I had shut off a few zones the other day due to the frosts we got but now turned them back on cause no rain anywhere in the future!
Local lake is about a foot low but not an issue, cause it holds about 24 feet back at the dam.
Yea, this is pretty nuts. I donāt recall a drier overall period and thatās because itās actually never happened - everā¦
Sept was the driest month ever in NYC and it hasnāt rained yet in Oct soā¦
No rain in the 10 day forecast.
Sprinklers are scheduled to be blown out on 11-12. Iām sure it will rain by then maybeā¦
PS - back in shorts. Nice and warm.
Yeah, Iām gonna change into shorts before I take my walk. House was just a bit cool when I got up this morning. Looks like shorts for several more days.
Where in that strange period where you have to scrape your windshield in the morning and use your ac on the drive home.
Itās been lightly raining for several hours. Itās a miracleā¦ Nothing else in the 10 day though. Pretty cray crayā¦
This miniscule rain is the most weāve had in NYC since Augustā¦
Yep, got some here, although not sure how much. Not enough.
Hopefully it will help slow down some of the wildfires in the area. Smoke was getting pretty bad over the weekend.
Yea, that was not enough rain. It was a good type of rain though because the ground is like concrete around here and wouldnāt be able to handle much more than drizzleā¦
Smoke / smoke smell was pretty bad on Saturday. Sadly an 18 year old volunteer died fighting the fire upstate. Not something we normally see around here. Then again, the tri-state area has never been this dry in recorded history and the 10-day forecast is unfortunately rain free.
There were rumblings over the last 10 days or so that a big nor-easter was coming late this week with pressure under 990MB but that apparently isnāt happening.
And now, less than 2 days after the rain, weāre back to Red Flag warnings and fire restrictions. This is crazy.
I have a hedge that seriously need trimming; but I donāt dare. Itās stressed enough already; the added stress of trimming might do it in. On the bright side, itās facing the neighbor that I really donāt likeā¦
I was thinking the same thing. Itās actually doing very very well, but they arenāt hedges, now 2ā above the 6ā fence!
