The reports I’m seeing are that just the Pallisades fire by itself is already the costliest wildfire ever, and it’s only about 30 hour old.

Even if every hydrant in the LA area could be opened at full blast it would not be anywhere near enough to fight a wildfire this size with these winds.

Newsweek (hardly a right-wing fringe media outlet) - is reporting the water shortage due to mismanagement - (releasing water to preserve failing / mismanaged dams)
But you are 10000% correct. This is a disaster and hoping and praying that everyone is OK and this gets under control quickly is what we should be concerned about.

Different weather events across the country are gumming up (and will continue to gum up) shipping and delivery estimates, in addition to tomorrow’s January 9 day of mourning (USPS closed, Amazon shipping holiday).

When any area of the country takes a hit it is a domino effect due to JIT logistics unfortunately. What effects one effects ALL.
Yep, we’re close to that tipping point of “JIT” becoming “NQIT” (not quite in time) logistics.
Trust me, I have an item I NEED for Friday, and due to a saga, it hasn’t even shipped yet.

Just a brief update on the semi that was on fire.
“The semi was reported to be fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on the scene. Officials said the semi contained ammunition.”

JIT worked in the country it was invented in - Japan.
At its best, it almost worked for some companies in the US.
The major Japanese manufacturers and their suppliers were located close to each other, often in the same industrial parks. Japan is also a very small country. And it was and still is common for Japanese companies and their suppliers to have “interlocking directorates”. We outlawed them during the Roosevelt administration - The Teddy Roosevelt administration.
I live in the middle of the country and yes, it is a mess right now. The main roads have been cleared but the side streets and backroads have only been partially cleared. It makes getting around more difficult. The city and state clear public roads but businesses are responsible for clearing their own parking lots and private roads. That could be difficult. Clearing 14"-17" of snow takes time and snow plow owners are in big demand right now.

It isn’t a shortage of water as much as it is getting the water to the fire. The high winds prevent air drops and the terrain can be a factor for land delivery. This is typical with Los Angeles Forrest Mountain Range fires.
Last night I watched a documentary on PBS about the tragic fire in Lahaina on Maui. Among the factors contributing to the tragedy, high winds were considered by many the major factor leading to the rapid spread of the fire.
Not only do the winds stoke the flames but the embers fly all over and start the next fire.
Was watching a live report today on the weather channel. Just a random bush on fire in front of the reporter while the main fire was hundreds of yards away.

Just watched the news about Pacific Palisades fire. Can’t help thinking of you. I think the fire is blowing south west direction, so hopefully it’s away from you. Please let us know you are safe.
