Just the direction they travel, though sometimes they become Nor’westerners (not a real term)
I work from home so just putting anything on can be weird… ![]()
Sadly, not the case since I have to go out to the store, PO, bank, etc.
That and my wife would have me committed if she came home and found me with no clothes on…
TMI ALERT … TMI ALERT !!!

That would make sense; but this being weather, directions are based on where wind is coming FROM, not where things are moving. (yeah, it’s confusing until you get used to it). Hence, a “northerly wind” is one bring usually colder air from the north, etc.
Thanks generac! I had a wifi based propane tank level monitor hooked to my account and working, they killed it off last week due to “system upgrades". So $149 later I have the same unit but cell based and now costs $80 a year.
Getting very windy here in NYC (Queens)….
I hear the worst is yet to come - overnight and tomorrow till about 8PM.
I’m loving the rain. It’s been quite dry like last year, this time, until today…
I have a generac that powers almost all the house that the previous owners put in with a 1000 gallon tank (only appliance in house on propane). I guess they were worried about the end of the world as we know it. It had around 600 gallons when we moved in 12 years ago. We get several outages yearly, one lasting a week and many over 24hrs. I just got down to 10% after all those years and ordered 100 gallons. I have a gas royalty payment on some Texas property that used to pay good money but last few years the payments have dwindled to near nothing yet I just paid $3.54/gal.
I’ve been happy with it’s performance and just change oil every few years.
Steady not so heavy rain here in NJ, with a bit of a breeze; nothing that is really noticeable unless you stop to listen for it. Had to poke my head out the front door to see what’s going on.
But, we live on the west side of a big ridge, so get some protection from Nor’easters. There have been storms where I looked out and saw only a few small branches down; then walked across the ridgeline and seen streets closed due to downed trees, so it might be bad over there (I’m not going out now to find out!).
Hopefully it doesn’t get much worse. I saw some reports from AC about the flooding; tomorrow’s is expected to be just a bit less than with Sandy!
It’s been raining off and on here S. Arizona since yesterday due to a Pacific storm. Flash Flood warnings every 2-3 hours, which is the reason many folks don’t pay attention to the alerts announced on cell phones/TV. No more than a heavy sprinkle in our area. Wonder if anything more than 1/2” moisture is a trigger since they often seem so pointless.
Stopped the UA/BYU game due to lightning strikes last night-this is very weird for desert AZ in early Oct.!
Our Mexican Honeysuckle loves the moisture! Blooming w/ fragrant bright orange blooms-goes well w/ the neighbors’ Halloween decorations.
Yeah, I’ve been listening to the radio, and hearing the flood warnings. I’m listening to KJZZ, which is out of Phoenix; a bit ironic since there are coastal flood warnings for my area (despite the fact that my county does not border the ocean!)
Maybe in your area, the flooding is not so bad. But having lived in AZ for several years, I saw some pretty serious flooding due to not-so-vast amounts of rain; I think it’s more of an issue in the less hilly areas, like north of Phoenix. But I don’t recall so much rain in October! Certainly not normal. (if you look at the radar, that plume of moisture from the TS goes all the way to Canada!)
Everybody still doing ok?
Doing OK in NJ; I think that most of the storm was farther east than the forecast; never really saw much of anything. Some scattered showers now, but nothing heavy; just enough to make the idea of taking a walk not sound so good.
Very heavy rain and wind kept me awake most of the night, and it is still going strong.
The Columbus Day parade was cancelled in Manhattan–never seen that happen before.
Pretty tame / lame here throughout. We got some good rain out of it which is good. Preparing for it was a waste of time. Blown forecast # 1,563,625 ![]()
It is amazing that as technology improves, weather forecasting has gotten significantly worse.
ETA - Weather forecasting seems to be more like fear-mongering the last 10-15 years.
I will say that a friend with a flight today out of Massachusetts had that canceled due to weather, with no possible option until Wednesday. (That crowd decided just to drive to GA instead of wait.)
We finally did get some heavy rain this morning. Needed it since the Monsoon was almost nonexistent this summer. Some flash-flooding in Buck-Eye and other western ‘burbs of Phoenix.
Watching the WEATHER CHANNEL this afternoon. Hope you Yankees stay safe( don’t take offense at the term Yankees. Remember I’m a native Texan and my mom’s family, mostly five/six generation Texans, called my dad, from Ohio, a Yankee).
My 100-year-old aunt, his last surviving sibling, frostily informed me once, ”We prefer the term MID-WESTERNERS!!!”
Whatever ya’ll call yourselves, stay off the roads if you can. Good thing it’s a government holiday, so not forced to ship. (Many city/county governments in AZ, due to the many Native Americans who live here, give their employees a choice: taking off Black Friday, instead.) .
They are all in it for the clicks…
Have not seen any subway stairs waterfalls or tracks turned into canals, as we have seen in rain storms past.
And yet there are still people who see no need to get out of the way of a Cat3+ Hurricane… (and I wonder if the people who had to be rescued in SC after getting 10" of rain would agree that it was over-hyped?)
