Many buyers never have been willing to buy on Ebay, since the early days. They consider it a flea market or boot sale.
Many buyers have never heard of Etsy or think if it as a site you can buy a string of beads sold as necklace.
I think that Shopify is not seen as a marketplace, at all. Buyers come to individual shops which are hosted there. They are seen as websites, not like Amazon Storefronts or Ebay stores which are usually ignored.
When a buyer has a negative experience with a seller on Shopify, they are less likely to blame Shopify.
I suppose someone who had a grudge against Canada might boycott Shopify, but I have no seen any evidence that such people exist.
A very small percentage of Amazon customers (and I don’t know how many are boycotting Amazon) is a very significant number to other platforms. If the same absolute (not percentage) of customer boycotted them, they’d go out of business, while Amazon can afford to lose them and not blink (for now)
When the growth diminishes or reverses? At some point it plateaus, unless it keeps adding new sellers and products. Hence why all the new sellers are tolerated with little to no vetting
Well versed in this FF/medic I actually do a training course on this. Hence my comment. Fortunately The battery came in and I very carefully inspected it and found it to be an actual OEM
Offering lower prices and more items on my own website. When I figure out how to do free shipping on Shopify for some items I will do that.
We may disagree on a few things, but on others we are brothers.
I do the exact same thing, but if the price is not significantly different, I will buy on Amazon merely because of other issues I have had historically with Wal Mart.
I might be an A-hole to many, but I am the A-hole many want on their side when nobody else is.
And I will often choose Walmart because I will usually pick up the product and find something else I forgot I needed when I do. I do not visit Walmart without a reason, and Amazon helps me avoid having to visit Walmart.
I have a boilerplate section in all eBay descriptions which briefly describes bookjacking, and says that we don’t do it, and says that we will not knowingly assist another seller doing it.
I have received two messages thanking me for my stance.
In my experience, eBay buyers are more likely to engage, nicely. Amazon buyers for the most part seem to like that curated impersonal divider wall experience.
Not my experience. When I started on Amazon in 2008, I would get blistering messages from Amazon buyers. My stock response started with, This is not Ebay. Relax, on Amazon we resolve order issues.
The Amazon forum at that time could not go for more than a few hours without someone posting “This is not Ebay”.
I just got a message from an Ebay buyer a few days ago which was vehement and accusatory. After my reeponse to him, he was a ■■■■■ cat.
My typical Ebay buyer is a potential repeat buyer, and has many of the personality quirks associated with collectors. I have few problems, so I take little abuse, but I know that some of my buyers, who I love and respect, can be insufferable when dealing with an ignoramus.
I have had repeat buyers across many sites who have recognized me based on my choice of merchandise. I never use the same seller name across multiple sites. Their behavior is consistent across sites, as is mine.
The ratio of jerks to humans on ebay is roughly the same on Amazon, in my experience. The main difference is that on Amazon, they act that way because they expect and demand instant satisfaction and how dare I not resolve an issue that has nothing to do with me before they knew they needed it, or they are trying to bully me into free stuff/money. On ebay, more often the impression is that they are just unpleasant people, or having a bad day.
I keep seeing anti-Amazon posts online, and have thought of responding that many Amazon sellers are small independent businesses, but I don’t think it would change anyone’s mind. We are just part of the Evil Empire. Nuances are not understood.
I have seen the same and replied the same over the years.
In the past, I would see replies like, “yeah, that’s true, good point” or “oh yeah, I forgot”…but in the past year or so, it’s been more like, “yes but they choose Amazon to sell on” and “yes but Amazon still makes money on those sales”.
So I have stopped responding because I don’t have enough time to go through it with them.
They often say that they look for the seller’s own website off Amazon and order there. I have only had one buyer contact me to do that. To me clear, they did not contact me through Amazon.
