[WSJ] Inside Amazon’s Secret Operation to Gather Intel on Rivals

It may be different in degree but it is not different in kind from companies which pay “Mystery Shoppers” to evaluate their competition.

I would be far more curious about whether Amazon was able to use the data they collected to improve Amazon performance.

Es verdad

And any attempt to regulate it will always be viewed as exploitation.

I was a “Mystery Shopper” for a few years. The jobs I did were actually companies checking up on their own stores and employee interactions.

Secret shoppers are almost always for internal use. Checking on your own company.

At least the interviewer did his homework. Thinks Shopify is a marketplace. LOL

Oddly, a lot of folks refer to it that way, I’ve noticed. I s uh spect what they mean is the drop ship model that Shopify sorta pushes with partner apps, mainly because they simply don’t realize how many brands/stores are actually Shopify-hosted.

I can recognize it as a user myself and am honestly kinda starstruck when I see some big names using it.

But yes, it’s not it’s own marketplace, at all. Buyers can shop ON Shopify through a store site but not FROM Shopify itself.
