I have not put much trust in most aspects of AI however I recently queried AI as to what I make as a Handmade seller and I was pleasantly surprised with the results and accuracy of the information.
Well, that makes one of us.
I just got a return request today and here is exactly why they want to return the item –

They will probably NOT be thrilled with my response IF they can actually READ, which I seriously doubt at this point –

It’s difficult to understand the scale of the problem, but OpenAI itself estimates that more than a million people every week show suicidal intent when chatting with ChatGPT.
Joke’s on them, some of us had mental health issues before AI was around to ruin things.

On my way home yesterday I listened to a programmer use the logic of AI agents being LLMs to describe how they had to “discipline” misbehaving/task-evading bots by “yelling at them” (allcaps) and using words like “unacceptable and embarassing” in a rule set (don’t not-test because it would be unacceptable and embarassing…) because of the linguistic relations of “embarassing” being bad. Mind you, in this same piece they talked about a coder having a “Socratic dialog” with an LLM and my eyes rolled about out of my head. Socratic dialog with a stochastic parrot? Nah.

I think there is a bit of magic involved in Ai production - its like watching a movie so to speak. To analogize: Tesla’s bot demo a while back was entirely controlled by people. Rufus says it can’t do things and proceeds to do them when it favors amazon (read an interesting Linkedin post on this). So it will be like everything else - yes you can cook whatever you want at home or order delivery with the options you’re given. I’m betting the folks that build their own GPTs so to speak and incorporate Ai into their workflows creating their own tools will win - it’s hard af
My most basic fear with AI is not terminator or anything of the sort. Is very mundane.
30 years ago when emails arrived we were promised that work would be easier because of the improved and faster communications.
The result is that we are now enslaved to the emails that we received on Saturday a 3 am.
15 years ago Amazon simplified commerce and sales. And here we are. Answering that message while on the delivery room of our baby because Amazon doesn’t allow 24 hours to not answer.
Now is AI. Here to simplify everything again…
Been down that road before, it somehow ends giving me more work.
This is partly true - what took months is now taking weeks and days. What took days is now a matter of hours and minutes - the key with Ai is to understand how it fits into the mechanics of whatever you’re doing/building and expand on it. It isn’t the context window that is dangerous - it is the millions of computations it can do on data it doesn’t have to process itself. It opens up new possibilities. I’ve already seen my return on it through my health and that too using a retail $20 account that no amount of endless googling, doctor consults, research papers could’ve been had - the probability being virtually zero. What’s that worth? My life. Literally - of course tomorrow I could get hit by a car or die in an earthquake but from the variables we can control - there is far more access - but the virtual barrier to entry is a lot higher - because no two inputs are alike - and out of the thousands of garbage apps being produced that are single purpose, and often, dumb agents - there are things being built that are, quite frankly, scary.
Imagine using AI to answer your wife’s questions and getting one right! … Now that’s an AI of the future we could look forward to.
No; in that, things were well defined and understandable. This is more like a Phillip Jose Farmer story; where just as soon as you figure something out, a totally random never before seen thing comes along to change everything.
I chose Brave New World for the reference of my dystopian present because at the beginning they explained the caste system and how advertisement and consumerism is forced to the deltas and epsilons through relentless advertisements catered to their aspirational wants and not their actual needs to sustain the upper casts.
AI advertisement will make deltas and epsilons of us all. Or even worse, it may simply be our (at least my) hubris to have thought that I wasn’t a delta or an epsilon, while the reality may be that indeed I (we?) already am?
Brave New World, 1984, Animal Farm (Sawle loved that book), Fahrenheit 451, Soylent Green, etc were supposed to be cautionary tales. Not guides on how to rule us.
