I am officially at the end of the line knowing what to do next. I have been sending documents to Amazon Canada for about six weeks now. Rejected every time of course. After the last one, I got them to phone me. Of course they are not much help, but he did claim he was escalating my case to the “leadership team.” Today I got their opinion, rejected yet again.
I know there are so few Canadians here, but I’m wondering from everyone, how do I proceed to re-open my case. I’ve seen stories where someone just kept re-opening until after about five times they got a positive result. Before I click the reply button, I’d like to know any particular phrases or words to use to get this re-opened. My account is now two weeks away from deactiviation due to this. I have spent hours on the Canadian forums, doing anything that a seller reported worked for them. None of those things has worked for me. Maybe after 27 years it’s over.
Just so anyone knows who does not sell on the Canadian platform, this needs more than the usual verification, such as utilities, etc. Without getting into the nitty gritty, one needs to get a government issued statement. There is new Canadian legislation Amazon is trying to follow and they are being as clear and helpful about it they usually are.
Thank you for any suggestions, I will try them all.
We are a US based company and provided our owners passport and our Georgia State business license as the documents requested from Amazon Canada. They worked. No rejections. The business license took a while to verify but went through eventually.
Just as an idea, @booknut7, can you search your company name in the Canada database here to request a certificate of compliance or existence to use for the Canada verification document? I wouldn’t use both but one would probably work. Just a thought.
I sent them a Filing Confirmation letter from the CRA, which another seller on the NSFE forum claimed got them through. Over the past six weeks I have sent GST registration, but it is not dated. I sent the Attestation Letter that a forum Mod posted as an example. I was asked for my Passport number, sent that. I was registering with the province when the government employees went on strike. So my paperwork is on a desk somewhere waiting for an end to the strike. By then I will be deactivated. In my latest reply to the case I have opened, I tried re-sending them all, along with a plea for a real person to take a look.
I know no one here can help out with the requirements for getting this done, I mainly posted in case someone knew the secret sauce for getting the actual human on board. I did ask (again) for “escalation.” Other than that it was pretty much just a plea.
I’m also wondering if this will close the USA account as well. There have been guesses in the NSFE forum, but no definitive sounding information. Thanks for your time, both links are for corporations, I am sole proprietor.
Apologies for the delayed response as I was out of the office last week. The partner team followed up with me sharing the following information:
"Seller account is pending verification as seller has to provide a Registration extract and proof of business address. Seller has provided “Business License” which is not an acceptable document.
Seller has to provide either of the following document for business
Provide a copy of the company’s registration extract, dated within the last 180 days.
Articles or Certificates of Incorporation, or,
Articles or Certificates of Formation, or,
Articles or Certificate of Organization.
Plus
Address verification documents: (either one of the following document)
Utility bill (gas, water, electricity, TV, internet, mobile phone, or landline)
Bank statement (Documents issued by a financial services provider, such as third-party providers or online digital banks, are not acceptable as a proof of address.)
Credit card statement or bill – Building society or credit union statement"
I hope that information helps with your document submission question that the Seller Identify Verification team is looking for to verify your information in the Canadian store. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Have a terrific rest of your Tuesday.
Also, since I’ve not heard the term myself I thought I’d throw this out there.
Disclaimer - I’m sick and my mind is mush. TO ADD … my best friends wife is in hospice and in her final days. Alzheimer’s is taking her way to early!
Registration extract (per AI): a government-issued document, such as articles of incorporation, certificate of organization, or an official registry extract, that serves as proof of a business’s legal existence and current status
Articles or certificate of incorporation/organization/formation:
The official government document that establishes a business as a legal entity.
Official registry extract:
A document from a government website that shows the business is active and registered.
Certificate of good standing:
A document confirming that a business is active, compliant, and up-to-date with its obligations.
Other official documents:
Tax clearance certificates or VAT registrations with recent issue dates may also be accepted
I would think a Business License would have worked … but maybe it also has to do with how the account is listed; corporation; LLC or whatever
Over the past six weeks I have sent many documents, including one that is my registration for tax collection. It states all of the info listed in Registration Extract, except nothing about a website, but is not accepted. Why you haven’t heard the term before is that (in Canada at least) no such documents exitsts.
My latest attempt at a phone call resulted in a young lady who did not know what verification was. Every time she put me on hold she came back with You need to send Registration Extract. My case has been “escalated” to the Internal Team. Yay (insert sarcasm button). I am to wait for contact from them. Sixteen days until d-day.
I am not sure if this may be helpful but I have noticed 2 things on the Canada NSFE from other sellers.
A seller mentioned, the correct option for a Sole Proprietor with a Professional Selling Subscription should be “Privately-owned business” and not None, I am an individual. [link to NSFE post] This one sounds interesting.
Another seller mentioned, We are in Ontario. Register your name as the business name, you will get a registration doc that you can supply to Amazon. Problem solved. You can do this directly with the Ontario government. ontario.ca/page/ontario-business-registry (add www.) [link to NSFE post]
I have read every post about this issue on the NSFE. Anything that worked for anyone, I tried. I was in the process of registering with the province, paid my name search fee, etc. Unfortunately I am in BC, where the government workers are on strike. So I will be deactivated before that can come through.
In my account, I have myself listed as an individual, as that is how the tax man sees my business. And in my account settings, under the button for choosing which you are it says something like “Individual setting covers sole proprietors and…something I can’t remember” And now I can’t find it to see what the exact wording is. I am afraid to change it to business in the middle of this mess, I think it would cause a whole new mess.
I had a friend get their account through with a 45 minute phone call. He got an email saying Congrats, etc. Next day he got the same notice of “We need further information.” He told them he already got reactivated, and they told him to send a screen shot of the email that said so. That was two days ago, he hasn’t heard back.
Right hand, please meet left hand.
I know no one here can give me guidance on how to get this done, I was mainly here to see what the magic words might be to get a real human on the case. But I do appreciate the attempts, and letting me vent to “my people” who “get it.”
