Amazon Coupon: Insufficient Sales History

Is there any workaround to the new Coupon suppression triggers?

I’m trying to re-run a coupon that last ran in February. Now 98 of 112 of my ASINs are suppresed for “Insufficient Sales History”. If the goal of a coupon is to generate more sales, then this seems a bit counter-productive. Any fix to this Amazon innovation?

Coupon Error

It is interesting as the original error we got was Reference Price error which now, when we look at the coupon, shows the items as also being Insufficient Sales History.

Amazon has moved the goal posts on this as Reference Price had to do with having a Manufacturer List Price on the listing (which Amazon said they verify through various means). That didn’t make sense as we are the manufacturer and have always had a Manufacturer List Price on our listings. To now say, nope … it is Insufficient Sales History is also wacky as even our #1 and #2 items that sell on a steady basis are insufficient.

Both of these issues have been stated as bars to meet with the ASINs; however, many are not being able to meet. It appears to us that this is another move by Amazon where the program was changed but the criteria code was not tested first (tested on the fly as Amazon normally does).

Think we are going to just periodically try testing coupon usage going forward to see test if the bugs are worked out. Other than that, we will be in a kind of a wait and see mode as it isn’t worth more of our time chasing Amazon’s moving goal posts.

I guess when someone at Amazon notices that their coupon revenue and coupon-related sales numbers have tanked, it might get some attention at that point.

This my supposition as well.

We have a Variation Relationship Set which has had a long-running coupon for many years (and it’s still being clipped @ the historical brisk pace); last week I noticed that that the Coupon Dashboard was displaying spurious duplicates for the actual Coupon ID that’s long been in place.

Using your step-by-step instructions (link, SAS), I made sure to re-associate the Child ASINs, but that did not suffice to remove the spurious “Running, but Needs Attention” notifications on the Dashboard (although it did suffice to remove the ‘this is a duplicate’ notification that formerly appeared when clicking into the Edit functionality).

Since everything is STILL working normally on the VR’s PDP itself, I’ve chosen to put addressing the duplicates on the back-burner, expecting that Amazon will keep tinkering around until it is satisfied.

Interesting indeed… That’s too bad. Looks like they created a new problem by addressing another - (what else is freaking new) - and we already wiped out all of our MSRP’s (list prices), so we could continue with our 2024 promo calendar.

You removed them and the Reference Price error disappeared? … and allowed the coupon to function?

We had a different error - said we recently raised our price even though we didn’t.

Was referencing the wrong price (List / MSRP) - not the sale.

But did you remove your List / MSRP to get your error cleared?

Yes. List now = Previous Sale

That’s what cleared it

So one shoe doesn’t fit everyone for Amazon …
Our List = Our Previous Sale = Our Current Sale = Amazon Reference Price error

Amazon Reference Price error changed to Insufficient Sales History sometime after our coupon showed as expired.

Agree. I created two coupons today:

  1. For a brand new item (FBA), with zero sales.
  2. For slow-selling ASINs (5, all FBA).

The coupon for slow-selling ASINs was running for about 5 hours and stopped working (orange “needs attention” label), BUT the coupon for the brand new FBA ASIN is still on. Even though the help page about new coupon rules/errors shows this:

Amazon contradicts itself: The products with SOME sales history are not eligible for coupons, products with NO sales history are eligible.

If you want to keep that coupon that got shut off running, just change the end date by 1 day every 3 hours and it will work. That’s just how stupid Amazon’s system is.

I did that for over a week (around the clock) until we figured it out.

I remember reading that you did that

You can change the date whenever you want to reactivate the coupon. Don’t need to be a maniac like me. LOL

They tell me that sleep is important. I don’t listen.

Me, is that you?

I tried something different. I cancelled the coupon and then chose “run again” and it’s running, again.

For 3 hours and then it will get shut off. Believe me, when I was battling this gremlin, I tried just about everything. Results were always the same. Run for 3 hours, off, change date, 15 mins later (OR LESS), boom - running again for 3 hours. Rinse and repeat.

Thanks for this! I’ll do this during our peak sales hours and when not otherwise distracted.

Just remember that there’s a 90 day limit on a coupon. So when setting up coups, start with a short date range so you will have lots of room to keep bumping the date a day.

You can always cancel and start over too. Whichever you prefer.

I just got back from stretching my 96 Impala SS out at speeds we won’t be talking about here.

Was thinking about taking the 88 Mustang out but don’t want to wake up the neighborhood. Lol

When you don’t sleep much, you can really get a lot done (work/life/fun) balance.
