Amazon Draws a Million New Sellers in 2024

The article notes that the 2024 number (900k) was across 22 Amazon marketplaces…but still, it also said that one-third were on .COM.

I found this particularly insightful:

Despite the influx of new sellers, more than half of the sales volume on the Amazon marketplace comes from sellers who started selling more than five years ago. The goods and brands those sellers are selling might be ever-evolving, but they regularly build long-lasting businesses on Amazon.

I would like to know where Marketplace Pulse gets this data from. It requires sources other than the publicly available data they can count,

I don’t know if anyone has referred to the Pareto Principle on SAS, but I have always suspected it applied to Amazon 3P sellers. 80% of the sales made by 20% of the sellers.

It has to take at least 5 years to get into the august 20%.

And other sources have suggested, in the past, that most “successful” sellers top out at 100k in sales.

I do not strive to have 100k in sales, unless I can ship them all as one order.

I suspect it’s an estimate based on scraped and compiled data from Seller Ratings (or similar), Jungle Scout (or similar), and Amazon.

And I suspect a desire to make a case which suits their prejudices.
