Quick look at how bad AI is at Amazon and why.
The problem here is the extent to which the AI can act âwithout permissionâ. Had it told the user that it thought the best approach was a complete rewrite, the user should have been able to veto that.
The other problem is that Amazon (apparently) works on production systems and live data, rather that in a development sandbox with only testers as users. This is suicidal.
As a seller, I have no way to backup âmy FBA ordersâ, as Amazon hides from me the crucial customer contact info that would allow one to restore mangled orders by asking the customer to resubmit their order.
I am more concerned about their work on live production systems than about the use of AI to do some or much of the actual coding, as an AI might be an improvement over some of the teenagers Iâve seen claiming to be âDevelopersâ.
I remember when Steve Balmer blew a fuse at a meeting over some of the dumber developers:
Exactly! This is the reason Iâm hesitant to load AI (Claude, I believe) on my PC despite many saying how efficient it will make me.
Given that google is going entirely AI on their searches, this is going to directly impact so many businesses.
No more organic search results sending people to your website.
No more research using google just a chatbot result record that is consistently wrong.
No more businesses using google for research.
I wonât touch AI in business because it is too risky and proven to be a pathological liar, not worth the risk. I donât touch it personally because the data centers are causing massive ecological damage to residential neighborhoods. Also, because I donât need it lol.
I guess they arenât learning from Amazonâs mistakes. ![]()
I think the Amazon AI experience has soured my adoption of AI in any shape or form in my personal life or business.
My Dad is big on it and sends me AI analysis of lots of things and it annoys me. lol
Same, plus that generative AI has been trained on and regurgitates (often incorrectly) the IP of people who gave no permission and have not been compensated. I will hold that grudge forever.
The number of people I encounter who are posting, sharing, or sending any old BS prefaced by âI asked Chat GPT (or Claude, or whatever) about blah blah blah andâŚâ and pretending it is somehow infallible is 2026âs InDuhVidual test.
Didnât Altman say he wanted intelligence to be a commodity? So they try to squeeze all human intelligence out of people into their AI while dumbing them down so kids grow up not knowing how to have critical thinking or form their own thoughts.
Have you seen graduation speakers pushing how âgreatâ AI is on the college graduating classes and being massively booâd? Not only is it insulting these kids just went 100k in debt to have a future, but at graduation praise the bot that the media says is the reason they wonât have one.
Itâs a mad, mad world right now
YES! The lady I saw kept looking around, like some college adminstrator was supposed to come whip those full-grown adults into agreeing with her. ![]()
