There are branded items that I am trying to list on. (Standard disclaimer: yes, I have permission to list these items for sale on amazon by the rights owner, etc.) However, when I find the item in Amazon’s catalog and try to add my listing, I get the 5885 error about listing generic items.
Any idea what the deal is with items like this and how this nonsense can be circumvented?
Do you know if the brand has whitelisted the items?
More and more brands have provided a “whitelist” of their approved sellers and if YOU are NOT on the list you will be stopped in your tracks and probably hit with an IP violation and an error message.
The ASIN of the listing in my screenshot is B0D9CY825Z.
This is not an item I care strongly about, and these are pretty bad listings, but this is an example of the problem I am running into. There are other items on better ASINs that I care about more.
That is an excellent question and the only answer is going to have to come from Amazon (generally).
They have bleeped up so much stuff with their totally insane ‘generic’ policy that I suspect it has invaded other areas of the platform with the ‘normal’ unintended consequences.
And here we all though that COVID was the only China based plague coming our way. THANKS AMAZON!
