Amazon MF Returns, 2 returns showing for the same order

On my Manage Seller Returns page, there are 2 returns showing for the same order. The order was for 2 items. The buyer gave different reasons on each return.

What is going on? Why is Amazon creating 2 returns for one order? Did they confuse the buyer.

She lied for a free return label but it is clothing so the return has to be free anyway. She paid extra for expedited shipping and I bought an expensive label for that. I’m going to file a Safe-T Claim as soon as possible on that.

4 Reasons for same order

Return Reason:Inaccurate website description

Buyer Comment:Didn’t come in time

Return Reason:No longer needed

Buyer Comment:Didn’t end up using it

This is for the same order of qty 2. I’m concerned they could get double-refunded because 2 returns of 2 are presented on this page, with identical order numbers.

It’s shady, I sure wish I could get the return label refund. I will hold off on the Safe-T Claim until it returns because these are often returned used and/or missing packaging.

This happens sometimes. One one of the returns should actually have a label charged when the item is returned, and you should only have 1 instance of RFS. If the item is not RFS, your refund should only occur once.

Buyers usually do this to try and get the reason that will get them free return shipping. Only one will be allowed for refund.

I thought they started a 2nd return to get the free return label due to the reasons chosen on the latest one. They probably thought it would replace the first attempt, little do they know I’ve been shown both attempts. The expedited outbound label costs as much as one of the items, I will fight hard on that one. I’m thinking of contacting them to let them know it’s not Amazon they are screwing and that I know their initial return reason. Carefully worded, of course.

Do not contact them. They will return with whatever label they received and then you can adjust the refund at that time.

I wouldn’t. If they are going through the effort of opening multiple returns to try to scam a few bucks, they aren’t going to stop because you remind them they are screwing people, not just faceless multi-billion dollar mega-corps.

This return delivered to me yesterday. It has not auto-refunded yet.

To refresh, the buyer opened 2 returns for the same order with different reasons

  1. no longer needed
  2. Inaccurate website description with the comment ‘didn’t come in time’ (it did deliver within the delivery window so was not late by Amazon’s requirement).

They paid for extradited shipping, I spent $24 for that label.

How to proceed? Could this still auto-refund and then I can file a Safe-T Claim for the expedited label cost - or should I refund now and deduct the label cost?

The category requires free returns for any reason but that shouldn’t leave me stuck with the expedited delivery cost of the order.

First, ignore the second return request. They can only return the item once. Focus on the return you actually received.

You got the item back, and as far as I am aware, the return was within the return window and covered by normal policy. Treat it like a normal return. Assess for condition, etc.

It didn’t RFS, so that’s out. If you don’t refund and Amazon refunds on their own, you can no longer file a SAFE-T claim. Don’t leave this for Amazon to deal with, issue a refund.

I would issue a refund for the value of the item, minus any relevant restocking fees based on the condition of the item. Be sure not to include the outbound shipping in the refund. If the buyer complains, gently explain that they can shove it. If they open an AtoZ claim, you should be fine.

The condition is good. I don’t want to get stuck with the outgoing expedited label cost.

Pleasantly surprised! I was able to recoup the extradited shipping they paid (the actual label I purchased was a few dollars more); and I was able to charge for the return label also - due to their choice of No Longer Needed, which was the first return they filed. The 2nd one that claimed inaccurate description - didn’t come in time is still on my returns page; I hope it doesn’t cause me trouble and falls off soon. It does now show Prior Refund Pending, they both are showing that so I should be OK.

Amazon already had it excluded from the refund, I had the option to refund it - of course I did not take that option!

Thank you for the great advice!
