Amazon News | Meet the new paper replacing Amazon’s plastic packaging

If you’re like me and like paper and science, then this Amazon News post is for you! It goes through its in-house research and testing on “extensible paper”.

“We’re on a mission to replace single-use plastics,” Sly says. The evidence, he said, is visible across Amazon’s operations. “You see a lot more brown.”

Automation and paper have historically been a so-so match. Plastic was the ideal material for machines—polyethylene heat-seals by simply melting together, and it’s forgiving at high speed. Paper doesn’t naturally heat seal, can tear under stress at fold points, and demands more precision from machinery. Extensible paper changes that equation.
