Amazon Parent / Child Editing

I need to edit the product titles of 2 children. Both children have their variations listed in parenthesis after their title. I’m guessing they get this from the parent. I don’t want to change what’s in the parenthesis, only what’s in their main titles before the parenthesis.

Do they inherit the title from the parent, or can I set each child to have a unique title?

I’m afraid to edit the parent, which currently has an old product description and bullet points that are very old. Last time I edited a parent, it re-populated the product description and bullet points to each child. I don’t want to do that again.

Can I just edit the title of each child?

The child can have a unique title, just don’t change the parenthesis. I have edited the child title (as well as descriptions or bullets) many times with no problem. Takes up to 24hrs to show up.
