Very bad for booksellers. The commercial carriers do not have Media Mail or Bound Printed Matter rates.
I take this as meaning Amazon would stop using USPS for their outbound but sellers would probably still have access to USPS in buy shipping
Pirateship has Media Mail rates, I use it frequently.
I use Pirateship for shipping books from sites other than Amazon, but I would miss the BPM rates which Pirateship does not offer.
In my instance, San Juan county (WA) receives the majority of Amazon (prime) packages via USPS but recently Amazon moved their own branded delivery trucks to San Juan Island and are now delivering what used to be all USPS. On my island, USPS still delivers the vast majority of Amazon prime. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE AMAZON TRUCKS IN MY AREA!..on top of USPS,UPS and Fed-EX.
Updates added:
The auction Amazon is referring to would be a āreverse auction,ā according to the Post. The USPS would be offering its mailing capabilities to the highest bidder, essentially making Amazon and other high-volume shippers compete for USPS resources. This move would reportedly be a result of the breakdown in talks between Amazon and the USPS.
[Amazon statement:] āThe USPS is a longstanding and trusted partner and we remain committed to working together. Weāve continued to discuss ways to extend our partnership that would increase our spend with them, and we look forward to hearing more from them soon ā with the goal of extending our relationship that started more than 30 years ago. We were surprised to hear they want to run an auction after nearly a year of negotiations, so we still have a lot to work through. Given the change of direction and the uncertainty it adds to our delivery network, weāre evaluating all of our options that would ensure we can continue to deliver for our customers.ā
We agree with this.
There is a USPS post office in our area that handles all of the outgoing USPS packages from the Amazon Lubbock warehouse. Our post office says that USPS post office, which is handling those Amazon packages, is having a hard time keeping employees there because of the crazy ups and downs of the volume Amazon sends through there.
As Amazon builds out their planned delivery nationwide even to remote areas, USPS will loose this volume. USPS is just being as proactive to the marketplace.
This is probably USPS trying to resolve issues with Amazon like that. If Amazon was to get rid of USPS within the buy shipping, it would blow apart the SSA, AHT, Amazon Buy Shipping program for many sellers and even more sellers who just use USPS.
Very bad for a lot, GA is a good product. But AFAICT I think it would only be FBA shipments, but Iām sure 3ps would still be allowed to use it
AFAICT, Amazon MCF (Non Smile Van) is nearly 100% USPS. What will they do about that?
- Amazon doesnāt like FedEx
- Amazon recently clipped UPS more
Whatās left? DHL? LOL
Unless they are going to go all in on smile vans/Flex Drivers? IDK
Carrier pigeons. Pneumatic tubes. Doordash orders directly from Amazon warehouses.
You just arenāt using your imagination!
No clue if this would even remotely happen but Netflix used to be cheaper and then they started offering original programming and eventually now they have a bunch of tiersā¦
a. Could Amazon do the same? No clue just literally popping ideass outtta my a$$
b. Could we see a future where Amazon keeps 2-day as a premium option
Wonder what the future holds.
please donāt be drones, please donāt be drones ![]()
Plus GA has slowed down. Taking 5-7 days to deliver, not necessarily holiday drag since began in October, so might as well use MM on orders here in the SW and Cali. We still use STAMPS, not trusting AMAZON w/ their slow payment on USPS labels-or at least slow verification of payment. The slowing may have a reason behind it beyond high holiday volume.
STAMPS issues a DELIVERY VERIFICATION to our business e-mail on each label we purchase through them-which keeps us from having to baby-sit orders!! During the summer, noticed many so-called verifications arenāt announcing delivery! Merely informing of scan through a USPS hub, often 2-4 times during a 24-hour period in urban areas. Can see the entire scanning process, if one is interested and often, weāre notājust want the parcel there ASAP.
Is this slowing down the process?
I also read this morning that AMAZON pays 7.2 BILLION to USPS each yearā¦if this contract isnāt renewed, will this damage mail delivery irreparably? Lastly, yesterday heard P.O. counter employee tell customer that OVERNIGHT (USPS PRIORITY EXPRESS) is taking 2-3 days, ,PRIORITY MAIL 4-5 daysāhorrified me. Think about that-perhaps USPS needs a kick in the pants!!
I mean - can they be reprogrammed? Cuz, thatās a a lot of free drones. I keed. I keed.
Canāt see them using them in West Texas.
Texans like to target shoot anything.
West Texas winds would have light items being delivered 3 house to a mile away (this can happen with UPS and FedEx door deliveries unless you have a brick available to put on top of the item).
You joke, but Staples just recently DoorDashed me shipping boxes. My initial order was cancelled as āunable to deliver,ā likely because someone rolled up in their Toyota Corolla and realized they couldnāt stuff 8 8x6x4 bundles in there.
Amazon might evolve into two tiers:
- You are a prime member and you can return anything according to Amazon policy ( what everyone can do now )
- You can return according to the sellerās return policy ( Like eBay does now ).
