Amazon showing different discount% by using 2 different prices?

Maybe it’s me but I never noticed this before..
( this is from that right side pop-out screen for buyers)

IN this screenshot I see a BIG RED 8% next to our listing,
but a RIG RED 12% next to the other sellers listing.

Why would our discount% be based off the list price and the other guy be based off the typical price?

Is Amazon hoping that some buyers in their haste or stupidity be like, "Well I’ll take the one that says “12” over “8”. Else what’s the point? & No we don’t have a “List Price” entered for this ASIN

Yes.

Maybe the other guy hasn’t entered a list price?

Dunno about that.

Maybe the other guy has more ASIN-specific sales or a longer sales history on the ASIN, to generate a “typical” price?

But tbh @Sundance, there are plenty of Buyers who would see your (lower price + better ratings) and make the wise choice. Not lots of Buyers. But plenty. Plus the ones who just click the top guy no matter what.
