Amazon's Choice vs. Overall Pick

Is Amazon transitioning from “Amazon’s Choice” badges to “Overall Pick”?

I’m doing product research and I’m not finding any Amazon’s Choice Badges anymore, but I am finding an Overall Pick badge on each search (usually).

That switch happened about a year ago. Then, they stacked on “popular brand pick” as a secondary on top, so more than 1 listing could be AC for a keyword.

Haven’t seen that one in awhile though. Just Overall Pick now.

Ok fine, I’ll look at some paper products. For science.

My search: “composition notebooks”. No filters. Mobile browser with Prime account.

Below were the two badges I saw (plus banners like “previously viewed” and “purchased month year”):

  1. Overall pick. This was the first non-sponsored result.

When I clicked the :information_source: it said:

So the “Amazon’s Choice” aspect has been relegated to the help text. I’m wondering if that’s for legal reasons (so it’s less obvious when Amazon “chooses” Amazon Basics) or customer perception reasons (for those customers–ahem–who are less likely to take Amazon’s recommendation).

  1. New arrival pick. This was several results down the scroll. No :information_source: to click, but sources said these are new products generating “significant customer interest”.

Forgot about New Arrival Pick… Hadn’t seen that in a bit but I guess it still exists…

Badges are cheap. Only costs are when a government agency decides to bring an anti-trust complaint.
