Anyone else having no sales today? Haven’t had a sale since just after midnight. That’s unusual for me on any day, but weekends are usually when I do very well so this is extremely unusual. And very worrying.
Nope, I’m absolutely flooded with orders. /S

As it stands, I MIGHT end up with 15 or 20 for the weekend since I’m already at 9 with the Friday orders (ship by Monday) that could have gone out yesterday (Friday) but that would have been TOO GOOD of service for Amazon purposes!
Business sucks…
By this time on a Saturday I usually have 15-20 orders, and I generally end up with 50-70+ by the end of Sunday. Barring some drastic reversal I won’t be anywhere near those numbers this weekend. Business for me had been going pretty good. April and May were both pretty outstanding for two months that aren’t October, November, December, or January.
sales were way down in the month of May and are even worse in June.
People are getting away from Amazon from what I have been seeing on Reddit and others sites.
Any hint as to where they are going instead?
Anyplace other than Amazon.
Reasons stated:
- Politics (various reasons)
- Prime fees and lack of delivery on time
- do a google search for a product and Amazon pops up but it is not the product but a knock off (this happens with everything, google Honda and Mazda is the first “sponsored link”)
- Garbage products produced by a certain Asian country
- Better prices on actual name brand products
- Too much not getting what you ordered.
- Amazon’s own “close enough” search engine.
I’ve had one sale on Amazon today, but that’s not a great indicator, as Amazon has become a smaller and smaller part of our business over the last couple of years (partly due to Amazon; partly due to shifts made by us).
But our much bigger eBay store has also been very slow for a weekend; 3 orders total (2 for the same customer, so really should count as one) instead of 10-15 that would be more normal. Even worse, they are all sub $15 orders, so a pretty lousy day. One good sale on Etsy, but overall, a really slow day.
We expect to see a slowdown during the summer; most of our books are not typical “summer reading”, and Father’s Day doesn’t generate the jewelry sales that Mother’s Day does, but this seems a bit excessive.
I suspect there are multiple factors at play; gas (in my area anyway) has finally dropped below $4/gal, but not by much, and that still is a big factor. I think the weather may also figure in; bad storms in some of the country, and first good Saturday in the NE in weeks, so maybe that’s keeping people preoccupied. And for many places, this is the first weekend after school got out for the summer; I know a lot of people who leave for vacation as soon as possible, although don’t really know how normal that is.
Of course, as much fun as it is to speculate, it may be just as accurate to blame Mercury in Retrograde while Venus is in the horn of Aries… 
But yeah, it’s not just you.
Yeah, Bezos seems to have that rare ability to politically piss off the Communists, the Fascists, and everyone in between!
Even as a long time seller and buyer, this one factor has almost pushed me to go first to other places to purchase. When I type in the EXACT brand and name of a product, and get 4 pages of “sponsored” products (some of which are not even close) before getting to what I want, something is seriously wrong.
And as a bookseller, I find it disturbing that listings on Amazon rarely show up on Bookfinder, which is OWNED by Amazon!
Several sales today, a little below normal but nothing unusual here.

Was normal today, and yesterday.
Flukes happen. For small volume sellers, a minor fluctuation looks large.
Very few of us are large enough to smooth out individual actions.
If every day were average, then that would be cause for concern.
Yesterday was slow for me, but my weekends tend to be slow.
May was a decent month for me on Ebay. June is off. It really looks like they turned the sprinkler off on June 1, and just let a little flow after a day or two.
But my impressions, views and external views are all up. Just not closing the sales.
I won’t deny any of the proposed sociological/political/economic explanations being valid.
My daughter did a prestigious crafts show last weekend, it was a disaster. Even when the sun shined on this 3 day show, no one came.
She did another show this weekend in a town where her younger sister lives and there was a big turnout, I did not get a report on her sales at that show.
Slow yesterday, though dollar amt. wasn’t bad, considering. Nonexistent today though orders don’t usually begin on summer Sundays till evening.
June is usually slow for reasons already mentioned. Overall we’re up 18% for the year which makes Amazon happy, telling us how we’ve turned a corner, having more views for our products! Whohooo!!-say TPTB who suppress our sales; won’t allow us to list certain publishers or make it difficult to list titles.
Attempted to list another obscure British publisher yesterday evening, forced to fill out 3-5 pages of forms prior to listing though the item, surprisingly, showed up on our inventory this morning!! (Other sellers-MEGAS- already listed the title. Great white hunter shooting elephants/leopards/lions in the 19th century. Some readers like this sort of adventure/history-same as those who read Rider Haggard or Theodore Roosevelt in his less environmental, he-man moments – I try not to judge…)
Anyway, figure isn’t dependable. BIL critically ill last year and we closed up shop several times to see him, plus attend obsequies. Husband morose as anniversary approaches; he and brother very close. Not good.at our house right now; we’re not cheering higher sales!
I had to look up this word. I asked my husband, whom I have sometimes called a “walking dictionary” what it meant, and since he did not know off the top of his head, which means he is off to visit his huge collection of dictionaries–he never met a dictionary he did not want to add to the permanent collection. He just asked if it was related to obsequious–um, no. He reported he’d found the meaning from Webster’s 3rd; no need to drag out the OED.
Anniversaries of deaths can be hard on all of us. I still remember some from decades ago.
In approximately 9 months, had 4 deaths among our circle of family/friends! One expects if, if elderly, and one’s relatives begin to die…One was my 100 year old-aunt.
But several were long-time friends of our children who were in their mid- to late 30’s. Makes one question the reason one is still here.

My blessed mom, a walking dictionary herself, suggested I use this word when writing thank-you notes after my dad’s decease over 50 years ago. As a 3rd year college student(English major), had never heard it, either. I had complained about using the words funeral/ mortuary/ cemetery, over and over. She said it would make the recipients sit up, scratch their heads and pay attention. Burned into my brain!
