XXXXX to Impose New 100 Percent Tariff on China on Nov. 1

Here’s another source
Rare earths, a group of 17 elements critical for products such as electric vehicles, military jets, and submarines, have become a key issue in the U.S.–China trade talks.
Decades of government subsidies and policy support have made China a dominant supplier of rare earths, with it controlling 61 percent of global extraction and 92 percent of refining production, according to the International Energy Agency.
Okay, can someone explain this to me?
You have a country that is well known for violating copyright and making pirate copies of anything they can.
You want to restrict them from getting important software. So far, that makes sense.
But you give them a 3 week “heads-up” to give them time to go ahead and get everything before the restriction, so that they can then copy it as much as they need???
This is getting a little worrisome TBH. Sounds like that meeting that was supposed to be productive coming up in Asia probably isn’t happening captain…
Things have been remarkably stable the last few months. This was unexpected.
I think that the stock market agrees with this assessment.
We tend to not follow the news too closely; it wasn’t until I went to the store about 4:00 that I heard the news on the radio. But well before that, we had commented about how slow sales were on every platform. Coincidence??? I think NOT. (of course, we always see slow sales anytime the government shuts down…)
And then you had to go and open your mouth…
LOL, I mean we were all thinking it, but you had to say it!
I didn’t say it till the hit the fan yesterday! Come on now. LOL
Nothing gets done immediately. Need time to get the bureaucrats moving, and time for opponents to get an injunction preventing the action, and for it to be overturned by an appeals court.
I’m pretty sure if they wanted the software without paying for it, they already got the software without paying for it.
We were planning a final shipment of made-in-China goods in late October, so that it would clear customs before 11/9 (where the current tariff rates are supposed to stay at 30-40%).
Now you are telling me that the shipment has to leave 10 days earlier in order to bypass this absurd +100%…? Is logistics and supply chain a joke to you? (What a dumb question…) If the supplier can move up the delivery date for us, great; if they can’t deliver the products early, I can go eat …
Did I know things are subject to change? Yes.
Did I know they like to flip things around? Also yes.
Am I really going to eat ? Probably not.
But still… I’m just so tired of this.
I’ve long said that, as bad as the tariffs are, the uncertainty and constant changes are worse.
There’s no planning ahead when everything is basically Hogwarts staircases.
Totally agree.
Thanks to the TACO staircase, we are now in the forbidden corridors and are stuck between getting eaten by a three-headed dog or jumping down from the third floor.
Unfortunately there’s no room of requirement in the real world for us.
Interesting info in that video, but good lord it opened with a statement that China was going to shutdown all US businesses on Nov 1, 2025 but now isn’t… huh? You can’t say they buried the lede here, but rather abandoned it immediately in the story’s focus.
I read on the Onion that the paperweight holding down the Epstein files was made of rare earth metals. Explains everything LOL.
THAT has to be HUGE. It should be able to be melted down for a few million chips…
There is planning ahead if you have insider information. A new account with massive liquidity and using leverage was able to short BTC and make ~ $200 million. Another whale in orange crypto sold right before the announcement. It’s all Hogwarts and Slytherin.
So NBA teams will have to pay 100% tariff on 7 foot centers being imported from China?
