I donāt look at this report. Not because there is nothing in it I might need to see (as you have pointed out, there clearly is) but simply because Iāve hit my limit of things to check, and this doesnāt make the cut.
How hard is it to get reimbursed for stuff like this?
Thatās what I remember, which is one of the reasons I just donāt spend the time on it, but I havenāt tried in years and something may have changed.
We had 3 that USPS sent through that were Amazon mistakes on the calculation of Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelopes to Hawaii which USPS caught the mistakes (Amazon charged $8.05 and was suppose to be $8.50). Not our fault as we paid what Amazon Buy Shipping was showing and charged. We went rounds with Amazon, got them to admit it wasnāt our fault and was to get back the $1.35 (that never happened). The reason Amazon reported as the reason to us also showed as an issue with dimensions and weight which it was not. That was just Amazonās way of inputting the adjustment.
All of our packages are either a 6x8 stay flat envelope 3oz or 4oz or a Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope. We had the time at that point to dig into it ā¦ not as much as the $1.35 mattered as to the fact of how it was presented to us as the size and weight issue (which is was not).
Going forward ā¦ we wouldnāt go down that rabbit hole again ā¦ as we gained the knowledge we needed into Amazonās every ending ability to present themselves as right when they have been the ones who created the wrong.
This case is clearly a USPS error that Amazon passed along. They measured my 10 x 8 x 3 in 7 oz package as 26 x 15.25 x 15.5 in, 38 lb (dim wt Iām sure).
I will fight for $64 and an ethical outcome. I have history this year of 44 identical packages going out, and many more last year which I pointed out to Support.
I hope itās not going to be as hard as @Dogtamer and @Lost_My_Marbles experienced. Given that it is clearly USPS in the wrong, maybe it will not be a huge battle. @maintak - I look at it once a month unless something out of the ordinary arises that needs investigation sooner. I check reimbursements and adjustments the most carefully; and a quick scan of the rest.
Let us know how this turns out. If this is something you can clear up relatively easily, itās worth dealing with. However, if the experience turns into something akin to root canal, even for $65 Iām not heading into those weeds.
Good luck with getting this corrected. There is a way to dispute these adjustments, but the one time we tried it was a complete waste of time. Since Amazon didnāt/wouldnāt/couldnāt give us the Adjustment ID, USPS told us we were out of luck.
If you feel you were debited in error, you can dispute the charge with the USPS. You will need to contact the USPS Automated Package Verification department directly. Email [email protected] or call 1-844-819-5187, and provide as much of the below information as possible:
Adjustment ID from your USPS postage account.
The last four digits of the Tracking Number.
The reason or explanation for the dispute (with as much detail as possible).
Itās been quite a while since we tried, so hopefully things have changed for the better since then.
Yep, donāt botherā¦you wonāt win this. This is an absolute scamā¦USPS pockets extra money knowing you basically have no recourse since itās an Amazon label.
For what itās worth, I just got a response from usps about my disputes from 2 years ago for a postage issue with Etsy. They approved the disputes of being overcharged and told me to reach out to Etsy for my refund
Our internal team has completed their investigation.
We would like to let you know that in this case the dimension you entered for this order was [10 X 8 X 3 IN] and the carrier audited dimension for this item is [26.0 X 15.25 X 15.5 IN].
You were charged for the difference in package [dimensions]. USPS will use the greater of actual weight or dimensional weight when charging for a shipping label.
Dimensional weight is calculated by (LxHxW)/166 for outbound and return shipment. The USPS runs packages in their network through the Automated Package Verification System (APV).
This system helps them to verify for accurate weight, dimensions, service type, origin zone, destination zone, etc. If USPS determines that you underpaid or overpaid for postage, or used a different package or service from what you entered when buying your label, they will automatically charge or credit your Amazon account for the difference.
Amazon does not reimburse Sellers for chargebacks due to carrierās policies adjustments.
You can access the carrierās Daily Rate and Service Guide and elaborating on their surcharge policies.

We realize that this isnāt the outcome you were hoping for. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and this the best possible resolution that we can provide you with regarding this issue.
I bought the shipping from Amazon. They have a responsibility to intervene since I paid them and it is their account. I gave bad feedback on the case resolution.
There has to be a path provided for disputing charges based on bad automation.
I found a $10.00 charge for āotherā in my transaction logā¦with no explanation, and spent an hour trying to get an explanation. Two tickets to seller support and a phone call, resulting in no info, no apology, no refund. ā¦finally just gave up and growled for 2 days.
IF you can get the Adjustment ID from Amazon you can dispute the charge with USPS. Our additional charge was very small so we gave up without wasting much time on it.
I opened a request with USPS via email and received this reply, so they are looking into it:
We are pleased to inform you that a Service Request has been opened on your behalf with the Automated Package Verification (APV) Help Desk. If your Service Request is regarding lost or damaged packages, package tracking or general retail/delivery complaints please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page or visit the Contact Us page for options to locate/contact the appropriate department as you will not receive a resolution from the APV Help Desk. If your request is not in reference to these items you can expect a response within 2-5 days, usually no more than 15 days.
So we shall see if they come back asking for an Adjustment ID. I explained in the email that I did not get one from Amazon, and attached a screenshot of the charges on my Amazon account. I also attached photos of an identical package on a scale and next to a ruler on all sides. And I pointed out that it was probably on top of a larger package when it went through their scanner causing the false dimension claim.
