Buying on Amazon

As a buyer, I’ve been seeing more and more when I buy something at a good price, and then shipping is significantly delayed: They don’t know when it will ship, but it’s still listed and we can get overnight shipping if we cancel and repurchase at a higher price. Sort of a bait and switch, ya think?

Just got another one that was cancelled because there was none in stock. And then boom! It’s now in stock at a higher price. This should be illegal. They need to sell it to me at the price I bought it.

Just to confirm…Amazon is the Seller, correct? Not 3P?

Yes and no. The overnight shipping purchase will likely be delayed too.

I don’t shop on Amazon that much, but I’ve heard a lot of people who do talking about this lately.

When the prices are the same or very close, I do cancel and repurchase and the second order will come on time, while the first one still had no ETA.

It’s FBA, as far as I can tell. Once cancelled, it doesn’t let me see details easily.

I don’t shop enough to have encountered that, yet. If it’s FBA, that tells me that Amazon has an inventory accuracy problem. Not good.

Has the same bait and switch effect that I do believe is illegal.

I’ve not noticed this. My big complaint is that I can type in the EXACT brand and name of what I want, then have to wade through 4 pages of “Sponsored” products, some of which aren’t even in the same category, before finding what I’m looking for.

It may not be too much longer before I break my Amazon habit, and go to Walmart or other places.

That’s more about competitors snagging adverts on those keywords than Amazon itself, isn’t it? Have you tried filtering on the left before you click through pages?

Yes …

Have done this because of it happening with either no ETA or given a date 2 months out when the original order had a delivery date of 10 days or less.

I never even thought to try re-ordering when this happens. I just cancel and order elsewhere. Thanks for the tip!

In one particular case, “Brand” was not an option for filtering.

So anyone dropping that into their title/keywords came up before the actual brand. Once I got to an actual brand listing, I could visit their store; but even then, when I clicked on something, there were times where other listings showed up!

Much of the time, the filtering does help, but not apparently always.

It’s maddening. It’s obviously available, since when I cancel and reorder, it comes on time. Yet, the order I placed with an expected arrival of last week still hasn’t shipped and they don’t know when it will ship.

I have seen this problem.

Usually, the lower priced OOS product was sold and shipped by Amazon. The higher priced product which was in stock is FBA.

I usually buy the product from Walmart at the lower price.

It seems to be related to large manufacturers’ products which Amazon has stocked in the past, and is probably seeking a better deal on.

Same here. I search for the exact title or item I need and get screens full of unrelated sponsored crap.

This must happen to most Amazon customers, and will ultimately frustrate enough of them who will say, “Anywhere but Amazon!”

The past 3 orders I put in, all promised overnight shipping. The tracking number changed from USPS to Amazon and all 3 were late.

Amazon’s answer was basically to bad, so sad.

I have been seeing more and more negative comments about Amazon on social media. Not just the quality of the products, but the joke of Prime and how they never deliver on time anymore.

They used to offer a small refund for missing the promise. Now, they just ask if we want to cancel. I order overnight when I need it overnight. I don’t want to have to place yet another order that will also not arrive on time.
