Canada Rail Strikes

Canadian strikes:

Canada’s largest railroads, Canadian national railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad, shut down on august 22 after failing to reach a labor agreement with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference. The dispute involved nearly 10,000 workers, centered on scheduling, safety, and fatigue management. The shutdown threatens key North American supply chains, impacting deliveries of crucial goods. The strike’s ripple effects could lead to inflated prices and supply shortages across the continent, with significant disruptions expected for both freight and passenger rail services.

(This breathless announcement came in over a service that provides me with news alerts that usually concern air travel problems and delays, so I know nothing more about this than what was sent.)

I was going to post this last week that it was authorized, thought, wait how does this effect Amazon, but now remember seeing Prime containers on train consists.

this will not only effect Amazon, but other shipping, AND passenger rail traffic. CP operates not only in Canada, but much of the rail west of Chicago in the northern part of the US.

CN and CP Kansas City both locked out workers today, looks like that was prior to workers taking strike action.

The strike was anticipated.

Major container shippers like Maersk had already limited carrying traffic that would be impacted by the Canada Rail outage.

There is going to be a lot of ripple thoughout the world as a result of this strike.

Looks like a big deal.

In the US the Teamster’s union is engaged in early stages of political conflict, while the UAW is banking on its political allies to resolve the impact of what could be an EV meltdown.
