I have a customer wanting the latest New Yorker magazine (100th Anniversary issue) and neither of us have a US acquaintance to ask to send one (well my aunt, but she is in her late 70’s and not postal savvy, so… )There is a Canadian site that sells them here, but their site now has a note that it is “not currently available.” And USA sites that sell it regularly want one to do a subscription, they don’t seem to do single copies. I’m hoping to find someone who would be willing to send me one, hopefully someone that to get one is not out of the way for you. I have no idea what it will cost to ship here, so please let me know the total and I’m sure she will reply to me quickly on going ahead with it. Or is someone knows of a site where I can order it direct, that would be just as helpful.
Thanks for the links @Lost_My_Marbles! I couldn’t find any az.ca sellers with it. Most of the US sellers want enough to ship to Canada, that it would be getting up around $50 Canadian for the darn thing, which my gal thinks is too much. She doesn’t want to understand the shipping cost, and I don’t have a clue how much the magazine even costs if purchased at a retail outlet.
Did that, thanks. The Canadian dollar is cwap right now. So with the exchange it would be around $40-$45 Canadian. With the price of magazines in general, I’m thinking that is not overly pricey myself. But I think she was hoping I had some magical way of getting it to her without any shipping cost involved. So unless the New Yorker has a Canadian outlet I can obtain it from, I think she’s out of luck.
I was going to make the same offer, until I got to your posting at the bottom of the thread.
When we did ship to Canada, Pre COVID if you did it by USPS and were under $25 it would sale through. Never a duty charge. Never, ever ship via UPS, the brokers are, (can’t say it here.)
I looked at the publishers website, 1 Year subscription appears to be the only option.
Another super generous SAS member! Thanks so much, I’ve sent @Chimanimani a note and we’ll see how it goes. I am hoping the New Yorker can provide a Canadian distributor to make it easy.
I have very rarely gotten hit with customs for packages sent via postal service. I think maybe five times in 25 years. When the GST first came in, I got hit with those all the time, for about two years, then they too stopped.
I’m glad it wasn’t just me that found subscription options only. I’m not the best “searcher” I know when it comes to anything on the computer. Were you able to find out how much a single issue costs if bought at a retail outlet?
Thanks to @Chimanimani (who has purchased the magazine already!) and @Image for your kind offer to do the same. My elderly shut in customer is super thrilled and awed by the kindness shown by strangers.
Sadly, there’s long been an increasing dearth of that here on earth - but not so much HERE in the SAS Community, as an abundance of evidence - in this thread, and many another - clearly indicates.
Thanks for letting me know it arrived okay. Turns out this customer used to write for The New Yorker occasionally back in the day, she is now in her 80’s. She is going to gift me a few books, so I thank you for that as well.
