Contact an Associate... Who Can't Speak English

Alright, I finally was getting around to creating a ticket with Seller Support, and did the “contact an associate” option, and here are the languages available to me. I was really hoping for English… so this is daunting:

try again later?

tried selecting one…

Curious … were you on the United States marketplace when you initiated the process?

yes, I had the same paranoia that I was at the wrong address.

I was trying to do it near 11PM PST, so maybe that threw them off? I did an IP location check too to ensure I wasn’t getting a weird reroute through my ISP and was shown as home.

I just tried again, I can’t get by the “contact an associate” part. Still 4 languages as only options.

This does appear to be yet another Amaglitch; I’ve seen scattered reports of it over in the NSFE over the last week, such as in these discussions:

https://sellercentral.amazon.com/seller-forums/discussions/t/07de3e9c-d313-4e56-8934-7e948a099c19

https://sellercentral.amazon.com/seller-forums/discussions/t/f06ea721-18f8-448b-9335-86ae0e53e027

I’ve yet to see anyone report a resolution, or an invariably-effective workaround…

Brand Support is investigating now. They had me keep sending screenshots with immediately URL confirmation as they were in disbelief I wasn’t on an international version of site.

I have run into this problem when booking airline flights in a country where English is not the default. I use google translate in “camera mode” to read the screen, and figure out which box is which, then I use google translate (English → XYZ) to write something in their language. With this one, I’d explain that I don’t speak, read, or write their language, but I’d like the message to be forwarded over to someone who does.

Lots of work to get around their error, I know, but Amazon is best viewed as a group of victims of system malfunctions that they cannot fix, and don’t even know who to report them to. So, trying to help them fix their problem is a waste of time.

May I ask if there’s been any update as of yet?

I see that there’s been another report of this phenomenon over in the NSFE today:

https://sellercentral.amazon.com/seller-forums/discussions/t/1a105880-012e-4cc5-90d9-4303d96809f9

Previous reports indicated these 3 choices - Hindi, Tamil, and Thai - as well as Vietnamese, but I’m not sure that the lack of that latter choice here indicates some halting degree of progress being made in clearing up yet another of the never-ending snafus…

I got an email from seller support that htey are still working on it.

Let’s just assume this was intentional. It’s not like seller support really does anything for sellers anyway, and this probably gave a nice reprieve in tickets for the time being.

Like when McDonald’s promised your food in 3 minutes from ordering and installed big timers to count down…but they didn’t start your clock until you pulled up to the food window? :eyes:

Amazon is like, sure, we can definitely help you…as long as you speak Dothraki between the hours of 2am and 2:02am, Neptune time.

Isn’t that one of the conlangs they almost got functional?

Anyway, them changing the associate languages to Hindi, Tamil, Thai, Vietnamese? Very weird. (Admittedly I had to pull out the Google Translate for the first three, but I did vaguely recognize the character set for the Thai since I’ve had to tangle with it before.)
