Credit Card Fees

Random question-Do Amazon/Walmart/Ebay…charge a credit card fee?

For Amazon, I believe (though my information might be outdated) that the credit/debit card processing fees are built into their referral fees and are at a significantly lower negotiated rate than what, say, Shopify might charge a merchant when a customer uses various credit cards, or what Venmo charges users for paying with a card versus a bank account.

This is one reason that Amazon–and not individual 3P Sellers–handles the transactions, purchases and returns.

ETA: It’s been a minute since I’ve sold (or bought) on eBay, but I think I remember something-something-PayPal that seemed to obfuscate the card processing fees.

ebay and Amazon take care of the credit card processing fee as part of their standard selling fees. I believe Walmart does also, but no actual sales there yet.

PayPal charges 49 cents per transaction plus 2.9% (the 2.9% can vary based on your volume and/or payment method).

We would pay $1.20 to $2 a transaction with PayPal from our site whereas we pay $5.99 per transaction with Amazon.

PayPal is just another means of payment on Ebay now. Ebay sellers see no fees. FVFs include the exchange fees which Ebay pays to its credit card processor - Aydin.

PayPal is no longer accepted for some functions like prepayment before bidding on an auction because PayPal lacks an authorization hold mechanism. Only those who hold stubbornly against change seem to pay with PayPal, most have figured out adding another middleman complicates security and problem resolution.

That’s good to know. I don’t mind using PayPal for lower cost purchases, but I prefer to go with my bank credit card for high priced stuff.

Ohhhhh noooo, looks like I should probably go peruse and purchase some paper goods on eBay to update my user experience. For science.

Well, I’ve been stocking up pretty nicely through these months of JoAnn’s shutting down…my closest one only has a week-ish left, will scavenge in person one last time very soon.
