Disputing adjustments on buy shipping on Amazon.

Can anyone remember the original post on Amazon where the dispute path was given as an email?

I asked chatgpt and was given the following answer.

To appeal a shipping adjustment charge on Amazon, you must submit a dispute ticket directly through Amazon Seller Support.

[1] (How to appeal USPS carrier adjustments?),

[2] (Is there ANY way to appeal these crazy carrier adjustments from USPS?!?!?!? we're getting outright robbed! how do we appeal?

)Locate the Adjustment DetailsGo to your Payments Dashboard in Seller Central.Open Transaction View and filter by Shipping services purchased through Amazon.Search for “Adjustment” in the Product Details column or click on the specific linked adjustment amount to see the carrier-audited weights and dimensions compared to what you entered.

File Your Dispute. Open a new case with Seller Support.Provide the specific Order ID and the exact adjustment charge amount.Attach strong supporting evidence proving the carrier’s measurement was wrong, such as photos of the packaged item on a scale, product dimensions, or manufacturer specs.State clearly why the adjustment is incorrect and request a full refund or reimbursement of the deducted fee.

Hi @Haegan2005 , I’m tagging in @Lost_My_Marbles @wadeorcas @Sundance @Old-Timer ,
and @MissMeliss , in case they can recall the procedure. I’ll keep poking around, too. Great question!

Oh @Haegan2005 I forgot to ask–which carrier?

If a USPS package is lost, there is a way to file a claim through USPS.

For a USPS adjustment charge, contacting USPS leads no where.

A couple of years back we fought some adjustments. We opened cases with Amazon which went no where. We posted on the old OSFE and caught the attention of a mod. Amazon had programed the price for a USPS PM Flat Rate envelope going to Hawaii at the wrong price. We had paid that price not knowing that Amazon pricing was wrong. In the end, Amazon admitted this was their error and was suppose to give us our money back. The refund never came. For us, it was a small amount and didn’t warrant any more of our time.

On NSFE, mods have been saying that the prices on Amazon Buy Shipping are estimated prices. We think that is BS but it opens the door for Amazon to pass these “adjustments” through to the sellers with very little way for the seller to fight the adjustments.

If you are getting hit with a lot of adjustments through Amazon Buy Shipping, we would possibly look at purchasing your labels directly through USPS. If you sign up for a USPS business account, you will find the prices about $0.05 lower than Amazon across the board. Doing this though could effect other metrics and the ability to win INR cases.

We would examine what type of packages seem to be getting these adjustments and try to find a solution that would possibly eliminate them. Example: we had packages that were getting stuck in the USPS mail bags because they were light. We changed the envelope type and the problem was resolved. Another thing that helps with USPS is to always round up. 1 1/2 inch is 2 inch. 3.1oz is 4oz. 1.5lb is 2lb.

We know this doesn’t answer your question of how to fight one and that is because we have never come across a method or process that works with these Amazon adjustments.

Open a case and fight … but the dollar amount has to justify the amount of time your spend fighting.

I haven’t done any disputes myself, but the mods on the NSFE are saying that you can submit a dispute to seller support. The mods have been saying this on the NSFE:

The Buy Shipping prices shown at the time of label purchase are estimates. Amazon operates a pass-through billing model with USPS, and by purchasing the label you agreed to the USPS charges for that shipment. Under this model, USPS can audit packages after purchase through their Automated Package Verification (APV) system to confirm the weight, dimensions, and service, and adjust the postage accordingly.

If you believe any adjustments were incorrect, your best next step is to submit a dispute to seller central.

There is a mod post about shipping adjustments and how to dispute them here.

With that all being said, I have not heard of anyone successfully disputing an adjustment. From what I have seen, Amazon has been quoting incorrect rates, and the adjustments are USPS charging the correct one. Because they say they work on pass-through billing model and that prices they show are estimates, Amazon isn’t taking any responsibility for the discrepancy and won’t refund you if this is the case.

Just got notice of $52 adjusted charges for 1/1-3/21, to be stolen from my account between 9/7 - 9/10. Total BS. All my packages are same envelope, same weight. I generously overstate the envelope dimensions and weight in my template. I’m nearly 1 to 1 on my Amazon to Etsy orders and I NEVER get an Etsy adjustment. This stinks! :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

ETA - for the past 2+ months I was getting more prompt adjustments that were for Amazon’s FU for not applying rural charges. Those seem to be tapering off now that they are finally getting that right.

Does getting a printed receipt for each package at drop off carry any weight for calling BS when disputing? It would be a lot of extra work to keep up but this is totally F’ed up.

Just received the same email, my adjustment was for $1.35, much smaller than yours, benefit of not much sales.

The charge hasn’t shown up in Payment yet, so can’t tell whether there is going to be any info as which order labels or whether there is going to be any info from USPS to compare sizes & weights.

I weight and measure each packages (very small box or envelope and light weight under 2 oz) and enter them correctly for each order, so really can’t see the problem was because of weight or size.

Wouldn’t be surprised the problem was caused by Amazon didn’t update ontime or charge enough for the labels during the frequent USPS rate changes.

Really not worth the time and effort to try to dispute my $1.35 adjustment. But if you do, please let us know the result.

$1.35 sounds like a rural difference charge.

For USPS GA 8.1oz to 12oz
Zone 7 rural is $8.07
Zone 7 non-rural is $6.72
$8.07 - $6.72 = $1.35

This would be our thought.

Was that for FBA or FBM?
We do FBM and use Amazon Buy Shipping. Amazon By Shipping has been applying the rural charges for us since the July change.

Our envelopes are put in as 8 x 6 x 1 … The 1 is a rounded up number for 0.25. Weight is normally either 3oz or 4oz (actual is 2.5oz and 3.5 oz). Shipped as USPS GA less than 1ib.

FBM.

Since July 12, I’ve had 3 charges for difference in rural price but seem to be charging correctly now.

On top of that, I’ve had a dozen or so of .37 which I suspect was a correction for zone 3 (sometimes it is 5.64 and sometimes it was $5.28 = .36 diff. - a penny round up somewhere)

My envelopes are 6x9x1.5 2-3oz which I input 10x7x2 - 4oz.

Well we got our email today …

Hello,

USPS assessed shipping correction charges totaling -13.57 on Fulfilled by Merchant labels you purchased on Buy Shipping between 01_01_2026 and 03_31_2026. You’ll be charged for these corrections between 09_07_2026 and 09_10_2026.

USPS applies these charges when the dimensions or weight of a package don’t match the label, or when your return address is incorrect or invalid. These charges may not appear in the same settlement period as the original shipment.

View your charges: Go to your Payments Dashboard. In Transaction View, filter by Shipping services purchased through Amazon, then search for “Adjustment” in the Product Details column.

Avoid future correction charges: Confirm that your products’ dimensions, weight, and return address are listed correctly in Seller Central.

For more information, go to Carrier shipping correction charges.

The Amazon Services team

If our memory serves us correctly, this is the period of time when Amazon did not update the USPS price change that happen on 01/18/2026 until almost 6 weeks later.

Again, Amazon’s laziness is 3P sellers surprise gift.

We are not going to waste time on it because we can see from our excel tracking sheet the prices we paid verses what USPS had stated as the new price on 01/18/2026.

FYI … we expect another little adjustment for later dates.

Bad Amazon … bad bad Amazon

EDIT:
But looking at the email it shows -13.57. Wouldn’t a correction charge of a negative amount actually be a credit? … not that we expect Amazon to write anything that is clear and understandable.

:+1:

That jibes with my own recollection of that particular instance of sluggardness, but there’s another fly in the ointment, as well, so I do not recommend simply accepting/writing off this latest round of BSS/MSS Shipping Overcharge Adjustments:

A little follow up on the USPS Jan to Mar USPS adjustment charges.

We use excel to track our shipments and the cost of each shipment. Back on Jan 19 when the USPS increase should have happened, we notice the price increase didn’t happen. On our excel sheet, we tracked what we paid and actually tracked what the price should have been. We did this until Feb 18 when Amazon started charging the new USPS prices.

Amazon says we should expect a $13.57 charge. From our excel tracking, we can see that from Jan 19 to Feb 18 there should be $11.65 charge so that is $1.92 difference. We have 5 orders in March that we flagged the pricing as being not what we expected. These will probably account for the $1.92 difference.

When our adjustment charge comes down, we will spot check what we have tracked to verify. We don’t expect to find anything other than what we have already tracked. We will follow up here to let everyone know so you will feel better if you don’t want to hunt down these USPS charges for the time period between Jan 1 (actually the 19) and Mar 31 (actually most before Feb 20).

Hopefully, it will save you all some time and worry.

It’s exploded on NSFE …

How to keep a MOD busy ?

And most of it self inflicted!

Does it really matter which order the dimensions are entered?
This is a padded envelope. Laying on a counter it is 15 L x 10 W x 3 H . How does USPS measure it differently? The values are the same, just in different order.

10 oz is equal to .625 lb.

So why an adjustment??

We can’t all function as machines. We are doomed.

More:

6 oz is .375 lb.

Amazon should be disputing these as our shipping vendor. There is no difference in the physical size and weight of these packages as entered vs as audited.

Were these labels bought between Jan 1 and Mar 31 ?
