It’s been a plague for a few years that some entrepreneur souls create accounts on eBay and on the day of creation they purchase orders for several $100s, just to claim that item was damaged, and proceed to return garbage.
The possibility of success appealing to eBay is (in my experience) a little below 50%. There is the small satisfaction of seeing some accounts be taken down right infront of your own eyes. But it’s a meager enjoyment.
I have stopped selling to new accounts all together. I usually ask them very politely if they can answer a message that basically says “hey, new person, blink twice if you’re scamming me.” Once they fail my captcha I cancel the order, and never have I received bad feedback for this practice…
Yesterday I had a “customer” with a 2 year account, but only 1 feedback, place 5 orders in quick succession, sending items to 5 different states. Two of the addresses freight forwarders. I sent a message saying:
“good morning,
thanks for your orders. We see that you’re dropshipping. It’s not a problem for us, but please answer this message confirming that:
- you placed 5 orders to 5 different addresses
- you’re not going to open returns or claims against our items
For our protection, without the confirmation we will not ship. With the confirmation we will ship today
regards,”
After no confirmation, all orders cancelled (sad too, about $700, oh well)
I’m happy that I can block that idiot. But alas, no rest for the wicked or the online salesmen.
