Although the new EIS program does not automatically enroll exclude countries until June 6, for some reason I am already enrolled and received an order yesterday. Yeah Bay! I quit all countries when FC was halted to many previously “trusted” destinations such as Australia during covid. I’m glad and hopeful this will resume some of those lost sales without extra hoops to jump thru.
Yeah, we’ve had a few of these orders and they seem pretty easy…
…tomorrow is June 6 ![]()
I’m inclined to let this ride. I always want more sales, of course. And if eBay handles all of the foreign taxes and paperwork, I’ll take it.
Or should I?
Is there any potential downside to this?
I have not found any downside to this.
Some buyers complain about the price of shipping with EIS, but some foreign buyers always complain about the price of shipping.
Ebay blocks EIS shipments of categories which may be problematic to customs to some countries, but if they are problematic they could be seized.
I find the shipping time a bit long, with delays in the Ebay hub. My buyers do not find it worth commenting on, But some Ebay buyers complain on the Ebay forums.
I like the fact that the seller is not responsible once the item has reached the hub and been inspected. No refunds, no returns, no FB, even though EIS gives the buyer 30 days.
Not too crazy about the role of DHL in EIS.
Not happy about being charged FVF on VAT if the buyer chooses to prepay it.
Been using EIS since it replaced Ebay Global Shipping. No problems so far, and I don’t know what they might be.
Ebay is supposed to remove negative FB due to EIS. Been a couple of forum posts complaining they did not, but like FBA strikethrough its hard to tell who is responsible for the negatives, and the Ebay bot is pretty dumb.
I just got automatic approval (opt-in) for international shipping. I came here to see if there were any negative comments, but everything looks okay
With VAT, I’m not sure if there will be much of a demand for de-stash, but hey…
If you sell it, they will come.
as long as I’m not dealing with VAT and international postage rates.
Ditto.
No issues with shipping damages. (all previously eBay funded)
No issues with returns. (all previously eBay funded)
I have not seen anything related to VAT, but that is outside my responsibilities.
I have not had any international postage rates charged. Only my expected shipping rates to the IL facility.
I check my shipping program since it categorizes EIS orders as “e Bay Intermediated International Priority Shipping”
We have had 75 orders since starting EIS in 2023.
70 went to zip code 60139-2080
5 back in 2023 went to 90040-3024, but not anymore.
We offer free shipping on some items.
We charge shipping on some items.
eBay does add our calculated shipping rate when appropriate.
Side note: you can print the Order Receipt if you want to see how much the buyer was charged extra by eBay for international shipping and taxes.
Ebay collects the VAT, sellers are charged FVF on VAT collected, which is your only involvement with VAT, For some countries, the buyer may opt to pay the VAT to their government not to EIS, but that choice seems to be happening less frequently. I am not sure whether it is Ebay changing the rules due to buyers who are not paying their VAT and duty and refusing the shipment leaving Ebay holding the bag.
There have been some threads on the Ebay forums about unhappy buyers because if there is a misdescription or damage their only option is to return the item. They would like to persuade the seller to offer a partial refund. Not much sympathy for those buyers who have started the threads, I love the way this works. I had an picking error which a buyer opened a case about, and the item was sufficiently inexpensive that he got to keep the item, AND he ordered the correct item which complemented the first item, and left happy FB.
