ebay ? Package delivered to correct address wrong city/state

Something new every day. In 25 years never had this happen.
USPS shows delivered to the AZ address Ironically same house # and street, buyer lives in CA. USPS would not accept a claim, saying package shows delivered.
Any thoughts/ideas?
"Hello,
My parcel showed delivered although I never received it. I contacted my USPS carrier so he could assist me. My postal carrier contacted me today and advised my package was delivered to xxxxxxx Scottsdale Arizona 85255 Tuesday march 11th. I don’t have any idea why it didn’t come to xxxxxxx Sacramento, CA 95828 which is what my PayPal reflects.

Can you please help me resolve this.
Thank you"

This is really strange and I guess not part of the recent recycled tracking number issue?

That wouldn’t make much sense unless it was the most unbelievably bad luck ever where it was recycled AND had the same address, just in a different state.

Or maybe it was this order that broke USPS? Just kidding. I know this isn’t a laughing matter.

Did the buyer put an Arizona address or California? Sometimes people leave old addresses on eBay and accidentally it’s shipped there. That’s on them, though.

Sound like it was supposed to go to 123 House Street in Scottsdale 85255

But went to 123 House Street in Sacramento 95828

That’s the way I read it anyway, which if true, is nuts.

Address was correct. We batched it in through Shipstation.

Agree, makes no sense at all!
And buyer called the post office and PO told him it was delivered to that address in AZ.
Very confused.

Just to verify – by ‘correct’ you mean that Shipstation has the CA address in their records and not the AZ one, right?

Normally in these situations I would suggest hitting the casino or buying lottery tickets but in this case I don’t think I would leave the house and might shelter in place in the basement.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any crazier…

Check eBay….does it have the same address as Shipstation? That at least will tell you if possibly it was a Shipstation screw up.

Are you sure the postal code wasn’t somehow the Arizona one but had the California street address?

Otherwise, someone at the postal service scanned something incorrectly. I’d file a claim appeal and explain this….I’m pretty sure a bot looked at your original claim.

Address matches what ebay has for buyer address.
Would have gladly reshipped but buyer opened claim with ebay.
Seems they always refund so we’ll let this one time out.

will reach out to our postmaster on Monday
Never saw this before. Ever.

It can not be an electronic issue, scanning, or printing because those do not go wrong.
and can not be customer fraud, like a postal re-direct, cause what again of the chances of the same address.

only thing I can think of is - Human Error. But is that possible?

The address line has the city, State, Zip AND on my Shipstation label the Address QR code - are all on the SAME LINE.

Maybe that line was smudged, or damage?

and some postal guy tagged it for that AZ address?

These days, when I enter an address in many apps, it auto populates with a list, and maybe it was, selected and tagged for Scottsdale?

One last thing. There are 3 (maybe 4) addresses.

The one on ebay,
The one on shipstation.

And the one on the label (on the delivered package)
and possibility a second place over the first.

Did you REPRINT the label on Shipstation of the original to see that it is correct there?

Also do a search for the street address only for a few years, to see if you ever sent there, and Shipstation possibility changed it on a verify address click?

I have had, now that you think of it, a complete address change., once. I think?

edit: On the label on SS, you can look at the history of modifications? Did you review that?

Yes. This is why I am so so confused!
Address on the label matches the address the buyer provided to ebay.
No changes.

I am not in the back warehouse area all day but I feel confident that those back there are double checking . If we enter an address that USPS does not recognize - whether batched through or manual cut and paste - we usually get a red error message. I tried to print another label using the CA address to see if that error message appeared and it did not.

Post Office offered no explanation to the buyer, other than “looks like a mistake on our end.” Still not understanding how that mistake can happen.

One time one of my package shown as delivered to me but I didn’t receive it. So I asked my post office to do a GPS check and they found it was delivered to a wrong address. The post office actually sent someone to that address to retrieve it and delivered to me.

It’s too late to try to get the package to the buyer in CA, but maybe you can ask your local post office whether somebody in that AZ post office can try to retrieve the package they delivered to the wrong address, and sent it back to you.

Mistake was two-fold….they scanned it wrong which happens sometimes and why packages can end up in different areas of the country. However, this should have been caught by someone in Arizona and redirected back to California.

I had a Christmas card from Maine delivered to my P.O. Box 673, (my town), CA (California) — when it was addressed to P.O. Box 673, Ontario CA (Canada). The city and zip codes weren’t even close.
