[eCommerceBytes] Amazon and Better Business Bureau Are on the Same Side in New Lawsuit

Amazon is once again going after paid for and fake reviews. Drop in the bucket, but something, right?

Was also covered on my local news and Amazon themselves has a post about it

Better than nothing, to be sure:

The Moderator-edited portion of the OP’s 072624 NSFE discussion title was “Amazing Chinese Seller!” (i.e., the original title was “Amazing Chinese Seller! 4.8 out of 5 stars 183,254 ratings” - the FMT-CMT apparently concluded that it violated the ‘nationality’ portion of the current ASF Guidelines).

Yet true abuse marches on, largely unscathed…

Lest we all remember my ear wax camera OSFE post with the post card offering my household member (I did not purchase said item) $10 for a review

(Don’t ask me to link to said post, the NSFE moved everything around and broke every link in the world)

We complained about that in BETA … everyone wanted links that were like OSFE but it wasn’t to be …

It is my opinion (protected 1st Amendment) and not the opinion of SaS, that the NSFE was to obscure the forum from public eves. Not block it, but make it less visible. The random garbage links, the fact that the title of the thread does not appear in the browser, makes the NSFE very unfriendly to search engines. and we all know Amazon Search works SOOOOOOO well. :person_facepalming:

No surprise here.

The BBB is not anti-merchant in any way.

The BBB is funded by merchant membership dues.

BBB is not a consumer advocate in any practical sense when the merchant is resistant. Many merchants ignore the BBB with no ill effects.

Any action a merchant takes to resolve a consumer complaint is voluntary. Sometimes one can get a better result with a BBB complaint, sometimes there are better settlements available.

It’s still being hosted in the NSFE, but I take your point about the unwelcome obfuscation:

Here’s your original post to that 031422 OSFE discussion as it currently appears today (073024):

Now that I’ve spilled the beans from my archives, I wouldn’t count on Amazon continuing to host that discussion…

A merchant is only obligated to respond to BBB complaints, if, like you said, they are voluntarily a member. Companies sign up for BBB and pay fees because it gives the appearance that they’re a good company that responds to consumer complaints.

I bet the listing is still live. If not, one of the 100 same sellers most certainly is still selling that item (or one of the 538 versions of it from Alibaba)…

It’s ALWAYS a beautiful day in the neighborhood…at least from the short-sighted perspective of the Seattle-ensconced panjandrums who make decisions on how to best-pad the corporate coffers.

Unless they actually evaluate some of the performance of some of their lofty initiatives. It is the devices group’s turn in the barrel at this time, and Jassy’s reevaluation is having more effects than have hit the press.

Discovered this week that BJ’s Warehouse Club is selling many Amazon devices below Amazon prices. Since the complaints are that Amazon does not make a profit on many of the devices, this suggests a new form of liquidation is in progress.
