Fedex PAK poly bags/envelopes

To use Fedex “one rate” shipping, it is required to use their own PAK envelopes.
I opened my own fedex account but found out, even with their discount, it is still much more expensive than Amazon buy shipping price. Fedex told me that my discounts will be even greater once they see my purchases but even with their promised discount, it is still more than what I pay for with Amazon buy shipping under Amazon’s account.
The problem is, Fedex will not allow me to order PAK envelopes as they do not see any label purchases under my account. I’ve explained to them about how I purchase it through Amazon buy shipping but they had no solution for it.
I got as much as I can from the local Fedex store but the manager told me it’ll be the last time they can supply it to me. She advised going around all the other local stores and grab as much as I can. At some point, all Fedex stores are going to tell me the same thing, that they can’t give me anymore.
So my questions is, is it possible to order PAK envelopes under Amazon account somehow? Or does anyone have an idea on how to get a hold of the PAK envelopes?

Maybe ship a package thru your FedEx account (doesn’t have to be business related). After that purchase, see if you can get some of the One Rate PAK online. Use those on Amazon until you need to order more and do one more purchase on your FedEx account … then order more of the PAK online.

Might work … at least for a while …

We have been on the One Rate program for a while, and back in 2020, we were informed by our rep that the program now allowed for us to use our own packaging. You can read the update about it here, and this is the image we were sent for the dimension info (pricing is very old):

We have used our own packaging for one specific product (a poster that ships flat and is too big for their envelopes, and we ship it as a PAK without issue.

The Fedex warehouse, where they ship fedex envelopes, contacted me directly and told me they can’t send them to me. But I guess I can give this a shot and see if it works. Thanks for the idea!

Thank you for this!
I read up on the link and one line says “Shippers can use FedEx Express packaging (envelopes, paks, and boxes) or their own, customer packaging for paks and boxes; provided, however, that the dimensions of any customer pak or box must not exceed the defined volume range (in cubic inches) of the FedEx Express packing type selected by the shipper.”
So as long as it is not bigger than the Fedex PAK envelopes, it should be fine. I’m going to give this a shot for current orders and hope for the best!

Please keep us updated. I’m sure you’re not the only Seller affected.

Thanks to @MissMeliss for sharing the details! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I didn’t try shipping with my own packaging yet but I did ask them today while dropping some packages off.
They firmly said I have to use the Fedex PAK envelope in order to use one rate. argh.. I’m scared to use my own packaging now.
I’m running low on the few stacks I have left. UPS 2nd day has raised their price but I might have to go back to using UPS. UPS local store I go to is awesome. I ask the manager and he just orders 200 for me whenever I ask.
I’m thinking about posting this on Amazon seller forum and see if the mods have any ideas.

I don’t want to discourage you, but I’m 100% certain you know waaay more about any FBM issue than the NSFE mods. You might do better by calling in to FedEx HQ and letting them know about the discrepancy between their written policy and what you’re being told.

LOL

I posted on NSFE and asked a mod to provide an actual link where it says we can use our own packaging for one rate. I did a little digging but wasn’t able to find it.
Here is the post where KJ_Amazon has responded to someone’s post.
Fed Ex One Rate, Bring your own box?? Is that true?

This may be a little helpful,
Amazon has some info here, FedEx shipping services and restrictions [link]

Amazon posts that you may use your own packaging for a Small Box, Medium, Large, or Extra Large Box. Not Paks or Envelopes.

To my knowledge, FedEx has removed all mentions of this from their One Rate site and requires the use of One Rate packaging, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for this info!
I looked all over and yes, I think they removed the info about using our own packaging for One Rate.
It’ll be great if they just let me ship with my own poly bag… It’s looking more like I’ll have to go back to UPS…

I forgot to post this earlier.

The FedEx website does “kind of” state that there is specific packaging for FedEx One Rate pricing.

It does not state that you may use outside packaging that I can find anywhere other than the outdated Amazon info or old published articles.

This was also my conclusion - e.g., that the Editorial Team (among many another of Amazon’s well-ensconced internal entities) has apparently proven to be yet-again rather laggardly in adjusting to the facts on the ground - after conducting a deeper dive sparked by our friend @justalamb’s topic-thread here, KJ’s response to his/her above-linked NSFE discussion (and similar threads on the same subject over in that wasteland*), and a review of topically-pertinent discussions elsewhere.

That being said, I do suspect that pressing KJ to dig deeper over in Lamb’s NSFE thread could prove informative…

I emailed my FedEx rep asking to confirm whether or not we can still use our own packaging for One Rate shipments and will update when I get a response.

Did you happen to ask your representative about your account specifically or did you ask for the general public’s use of FedEx One Rate?

Thank you! @MissMeliss
If the rep can point to where it says on fedex website, I can show it to my local fedex store so they will accept it.

She replied back saying that as far as she is aware, you can use your own packaging as long as it is within the cubic inches limit as set for the packaging type.

@MissMeliss Thank you for the follow up!
I’m going to work with our local fedex office and make sure they accept it.
Thanks again!
