Finally downgraded from Professional to Individual

Not that it’s such a great thing in my case, but at least I will be losing less money. I just reviewed my sales on Amazon, which started out in the 100K annual revenue back during COVID, down to now where it is less than 40 sales per month. It’s actually been that way for a little while. August 2025 was my last month selling over 40 orders.

I think one of the reasons for the sales slump, aside from the general world issues, was when I let the repricing software I had been using for years lapse. That was one of the casualties of the current economy. Just couldn’t afford it as sales were already in decline. Unfortunately I also don’t have the time to run through repricing manually as things currently stand.

On the flip side, I have been building up my own webstore and branching out. ebay and TikTok have been seeing gains recently, and I have also started doing affiliate sales, both as a seller-on-commission and as a supplier for other websites. I’m in the gaming space, and I now work with our local FLGS supplying some of their titles which has been going pretty decently.

Still fighting each month to make all the bills. I started during COVID and expanded too rapidly and didn’t account for the excess disposable income with all the government assistance so I over ordered. Been in a $50k debt situation since the end of 2023, but even so, it’s been that amount the whole time while still growing the business slowly, so it’s technically an improvement.

Pivot pivot pivot. Don’t settle. Keep looking into new opportunities. Make more informed decisions. Rinse, repeat. I’m not done yet, but today still feels like a bit of a turning point. Another kick in the pants in a long series of them saying “Don’t get comfortable, keep a look out, and jump on any opportunity that comes your way - there is no status quo!”

Just a cautionary note – did you check to see what your new shipping charges will be ? (remember – you have no control)

This is the way! Maintaining a more cost-effective presence on Amazon, without depending on Amazon, and also going where your Buyers are.

:downcast_face_with_sweat: See, these are those “soft” malignant economic consequences that aren’t easily reflected in a line graph.

So many small businesses were affected by, for example, tariffs in 2025, in ways that won’t be remedied merely by refunds (if they even get 'em) or reversing course.

@SoldBySelf thank you for this update and good reminders that Amazon is a sales channel–one of many!–and not a sales partner. I wish you continued luck in all of your business, online and local.

Crap, no. I wasn’t aware there is any difference when it comes to shipping. Can you elaborate?

With an Amazon Individual account, you do not have the ability to create, edit, or customize shipping templates. You cannot set your own shipping rates or transit times. Instead, Amazon automatically applies flat, fixed shipping rates and delivery times based on the specific product category.

With an Individual account, your only controls for managing shipping are:

  • Shipping Options: You are restricted to offering Standard Shipping. Expedited or Two-Day shipping options are unavailable.
  • Adjusting Item Price: Since you cannot change the shipping fee that Amazon sets for your items, your only way to control your overall profit is to adjust the base listing price of your products.
  • Shipping Destinations: You can choose whether to enable international shipping or restrict orders to domestic addresses.
  • Excluding PO Boxes: You have the ability to exclude PO Boxes from your shipping locations.

Note: If you need granular control over shipping templates—such as customizing transit times, creating multiple templates for different products, or setting different rates for different regions—you will need to upgrade to the Professional selling plan.
