GS1 and Brand Name clarification

Are there any GS1/Amazon experts that could verify this for me?

Does Amazon require that the brand name in the GS1 database be exactly the same as the brand registered in Amazon? Which I say exact, down to the exact character? Or are they okay as long you can prove you are the owner of the brand and you are not re-using UPCs?

For example: The GS1 brand name is “Apple Inc” but you would create the Amazon product listings under the brand “Apple Computer”. I know this sounds silly but I can’t explain details without giving up what I sell.

I believe that they do but if you own the prefix, you can edit the brand name in the GS1 datahub.

The brand name needs to match on the UPC code. Ownership of the GS1 account was also a factor as we had to establish we were the owner of the brand being used with the UPC code as the company name is not the same as the brand name.

GS1 supplies you with a “GS1 Company Prefix Certification” which Amazon needed when we did it.

When you say the company name was not the same as the brand name… was any of it the same? Like my example of Apple Inc and Apple Computer?

No … company name like General Services with brand name like Busy Bee Designs …

Owner owns Company which owns the Brand …

All Amazon wants to see is the chain of ownership and that the Brand is matched correctly to the UPC of the item.

YES! You’re correct. Forgot about that. Sometimes it’s the same, sometimes it’s not.

That’s not something that can be edited… (Business Name)

@Rand did that help clarify?

:thinking: Are you working around the Amazon Handmade reclassifications and/or brand exemptions?

Nope, this doesn’t have anything to do with Amazon Handmade or brand exemptions.

Our products have always been placed under the same brand name on Amazon since it had the same UPC brand. However we are splitting them up to create two different Amazon stores since the customers fall into two different groups. However the company name is still the same in the beginning of each of the brands which is why I used “Apple Computer” and “Apple Inc” as examples.
