How is MakerPlace Doing?

Holy guacamole, that’s changed since I signed up.
Does anyone know when it changed? because I don’t remember seeing an announcement.

Which does remind me I’ve still yet to be charged for a professional membership. They keep extending my trial :woman_shrugging:

It’s been the following all along however they have extended my free trial for the professional plan like 3 times now and currently it has been extended until 01/31/2025

I don’t know if anyone else has seen this issue but when I go to Makerplace, the home page usually works fine but many if not most of this time when I drill down to a category, I get a “pulsing” page as if it’s trying to load but never does. I do not have this problem on any other sites. :man_shrugging:

Returns this … a tag sluggish but there is a FireFox update pending (which normally makes things sluggish until done).

Thanks to Wade and GGX for the correct info. Not sure where I got my number, but I’ve been laboring under that illusion since Day 1.

I think you confused michael’s marketplace with makerplace. Their marketplace has fees that are more in line with other marketplaces.

Michael’s like BB&B, JCPenny, HarborFreight, and others ALWAYS has sales / coupons. Not a bit surprised that they are having sales often in MakerPlace too.

That’s not really a valid comparison. Normally the sales/coupons are stuff they’re selling as 1P, and they still make money (or at least break even) at the sales price. On Makerplace they’re offering the customer a discount but still paying the seller full price and taking a huge loss on every sale.

You could buy stuff from yourself and make money on it. It’s crazy.

I know it isn’t “the same”, but it is what their customer base knows. They expect not to pay the “list price” of everything.

And it is a marketing expense. If they didn’t need to do it to generate enough sales they would stop.

Exactly. And the best Michaels comps are JoAnn and Hobby Lobby. All three have weekly ads featuring discounted categories, coupons, and doorbuster sales. It’s the norm in the retail craft world that Michaels is coming from.

They might want to A/B test with the same D2C model versus Etsy’s marketplace model, where the platform-wide sales are few and come with terms that are usually Seller- and Buyer-friendly.

I am trying to sell on MakerPlace, but the site itself needs much improvement (I can tell as an IT professional ). The site needs better marketing as well since no one knows that this marketplace site exists, so the bottom line is it’s a dad place.

Hello @Imelamud and welcome to SellersAskSellers! What are some improvements you would make to MP’s site itself?

I started selling there maybe 6 months ago. I only listed a few items and then didn’t log for several months. When I finally did again, I saw a few people had favorited some items so I added more. I do wish we could see what items had been favorited. I will say they have made many improvements since I joined so they are listening! I had made a comment in their FB group that they had their rates wrong and they emailed me and actually fixed it for the most part. I wanted them to add a padded flat rate envelope as an option, but I’m not sure the person that emailed understood what I meant. I haven’t sold anything yet. I need to list more items still. I get torn on whether I should concentrate more on Michaels or goimagine.
