How is MakerPlace Doing?

Good point, what scammer would bother joining if the sales don’t increase? :grinning:

Wade says that they have sorted some of the non-handmade peeps out, so here’s hoping!

It sounds like it might be worth it to give it a try.

If you start with the free Basic Plan, then there is really not cost to it, just the time to set it up.

Stetting up the store, listing items are pretty simple. I just open an listing from Amazon HM, drag and drop the images into MakerPlace, and copy/pates other info between the 2 sites.

They have made improvements to the site from the earlier days. Now they just need to be able to bring a lot more people to the site.

Another thing one could do if they don’t want to spend time setting up a bunch of listings for what’s currently a dead marketplace, is register an account and put up 1 listing.

This way if they are successful, you’ll already have an active account when they have to make registering harder to stymie the wave of scammers trying to join.

@wadeorcas How do you get to the forums? I am in a few of the Facebook groups, but I haven’t seen anything about suspending non handmade sellers.

I assume he’s referring to the Facebook groups - there’s a few of them, including one that’s moderated by Michaels (loosely moderated!).

Here is one I was thinking of. I was following a couple but this one seems to be the official one

And you will see questions like this

"I have another question for all you that have your shops up and running….

All of my products are unique and one of a kind. How do I specify there is only one available, and they should not be able to request more than one?"

After almost 6 weeks, I got another order last night so there is still hope for after Beta :slightly_smiling_face:

The continuous posts with people sharing the things they made - many of which (I’m sorry) look like something I have in my ‘Kids Elementary Crafts’ bin - have me snoozing that group on repeat.

At least they’re handmade!

@ModernSwitch - Your observations are valid. I was disappointed to see Darice cease its manufacturing operation several years ago. They made good products for crafters.

I get this. It’s not a place for them to make money selling makers’ crafts. It’s a place for them to make more money selling their craft supplies (to crafters who think they can make money off their crafts). The more naive the maker, the better. They are the only ones who would be sourcing their supplies from Michaels.

Well, part of makerplace is offering classes. I’m sure there’ll be classes on how to make a “killing” with a “small investment” of michael’s supplies by making stuff to post on makerplace. And Michaels will allow it because it’s making them money.

If you are in the Facebook group they announced when beta is ending. They said to keep it a secret but you don’t need to wait long lol. :joy:

So when is it? Since the Beta started on 8/1, I’m guess it’d be tomorrow Nov 1, right?

Not that it really matters since I’m not doing anything for it.

I got my first order on Michael’s today (after almost 3 months). Has anyone figured out how to print a packing slip? I just printed the order page this time.

Congratulations. I got one yesterday and one this morning (for 3 items), so I’m hopeful. For the packing slip, I just use the invoice. Click the 3 dots and “view invoice”

It’s out of beta now. Webpage so far on mobile doesn’t look that much different just changed up the items they were featuring on the main page with a few gift guides. If I can get in my office later today I’ll see how the desktop view looks.
