How is MakerPlace Doing?

So, I guessed the date correctly. :grinning:

Looking on my PC, from Michaels regular site, there is a small section announcing the official launch.

I havenā€™t been on MakerPlace landing page laterly, so canā€™t really say how much have been updated/changed now.

I wish the ā€œEditorā€™s Pickā€ and couple other curated sections on MakerPlace landing page have more than just 4-6 items, but I do remember reading their info page that said to be ā€œFeaturedā€, you have to be on the Professional Plan. so maybe they wonā€™t show any items from Basic Plan sellers?

I think the gift guides are just auto propagated, I donā€™t think someone manually made them, simply because now that I am on my desktop and looking at the ā€˜petā€™ gift guideā€¦so many non pet itemsā€¦ baby bibs, jewelry etc LOL.

Umā€¦you might be surprised at how some people treat their pets

You never seen someone pushing their dog in a baby stroller?

Iā€™m starting to see commercials on TV for MakerPlace. Only 20-30 seconds. However, these commercials really donā€™t explain what MakerPlace is about. You see a small michaels dot com posted in the bottom corner of the screen and a large MakerPlace logo on the big screen.

I havenā€™t had any sales, but I DID finally see a commercial or ad [I canā€™t remember where] that was targeted to BUYERS instead of sellers.

Iā€™ve had 16 orders now, 2 this week and I am glad to see some more promotion. The site is still cumbersome but with Amazon and Etsy slowing down, Iā€™ll take what I can get. Iā€™ve seen some promotions on my YouTubeTV subscription (along with the non stop ever annoying Medicare insurance commercials).

Thatā€™s probably part of Michaelā€™s ongoing ā€œTurn Ideas Into I-Did-Itā€ Nationwide/Big Media Advertising Campaign, methinks.

I have received an email that was promoting MakerPlace, instead of the usual advertising for the regular Michaels.

Donā€™t know how much impact Michaelsā€™ promotion really have, so far for me besides that one sale at the very beginning, nothing else for 3 months now. According to the Stats showing on the Dashboard, the ā€œlisting viewsā€ are still as low (almost non-existent) as during Beta.

 Who all has holiday-type items listed on MP? Not ready-made gift items, but holiday-themed decor, or DIY gift materials, or tablescape/hosting items?

ā€¦and how are those listings doing?

I have holiday light switch covers. I havenā€™t sold any on makerplace and they actually have never historically been good sellers on Etsy or Amazon Handmade, so I typically donā€™t offer a lot.

However it does seem to be what is getting people into my shop. Here are my stats for last 7 days:

Total Search

272

61

36

27

23

mushrooms

23

22

But still no sales since September.

Great data, thanks @ModernSwitch !

Your top 5 searches were all holiday/holiday decor:

  • christmas decor
  • christmas
  • gingerbread decor
  • home decor
  • mushrooms (yes holiday)

7 of 10 were holiday/holiday decor:

  • christmas decor
  • christmas
  • gingerbread decor
  • home decor
  • mushrooms (yes holiday)
  • gothic (probably not holiday?)
  • shell art
  • hanukkah
  • home decor (duplicate?)
  • beach decor

These are the things buyers are looking for right now, pre-Thanksgiving.

I didnā€™t even catch that home decor was on there twice. I know something is not quite right and accurate with the stats/search because sometimes I can search something and only like 20 items come up but then other times I can search the same thing and hundreds of items come up. So yeah :woman_shrugging:

Just seen in my Facebook feed. NOTE: I am not a Michaels Rewards member, so however I was targeted, that wasnā€™t it. And I donā€™t have a dog.

Also interesting that the voucher you earn by shopping MP isnā€™t valid on MP.

Well, that makes it pretty clear (if there was any doubt) that makerplace serves to promote their main business.

Thatā€™s stupid. If someone buys something on MakerPlace, they should be able to spend it there, not for craft purchases which they may not even have a use for.

same here. 246 items listed, eclectic selection including holiday, and zzzzz

Just cancelled my professional plan today. Got an email that said I will no longer be billed but my benefits will continue until the end of the free trial: June 8, 2024. Wow. I didnā€™t know the trial lasted that long.

Originally, the professional free trial was 6 months (I think). Iā€™m guessing there have been a lot of cancellations due to lack of sales.

I had one sale the first month, thatā€™s all.

I think I started in June or July with the professional plan and have not been charged yet and my account says my free trial is over May 26, 2024 ???

So far Iā€™ve had 19 orders since beginning of August so Iā€™ll at least stay until my trial runs out. So far there is a lot of cheesy stuff, (mine included to some) and price points in jewelry are mostly very low. Iā€™m hoping some more nice stuff comes in. Watching the forums, there appear to be a lot of e-commerce newbies and sellers who would never think of venturing into Amazon. Many think they should be paid as soon as they ship the order so a lot say they are leaving for that reason as well.
